Week 5 Worksheet - MMS704 Sport Ethics and Integrity In this weeks online module you were introduced to a number of areas of member protection. Please summarize the key findings that you would need to remember to help protect members in practice: Complaint resolution procedures Ensure prompt, fair, and confidential handling of complaints. Throughout the procedure, provide assistance to both the respondent and the complaint. If they need more assistance, might suggest that they speak with mental health or wellness experts. Give them enough time to complete telling their story. Member Protection and the Law: Follow all changes to laws and rules that could have an impact on the organization's ability to protect its members. Verify that all legal criteria for member protection are being followed. Child Protection: Train volunteers and employees on how to recognize and respond to child protection issues. Address any suspicions or claims of child abuse or neglect immediately. Harassment & Discrimination: Educate members on appropriate conduct as well as the adverse consequences of harassment and discrimination. Maintain a zero-tolerance policy against all sorts of discrimination and harassment. Ethical and Practical Consideration Make sure member protection policies and procedures are workable and efficient in reality by taking into account their practical consequences. Constantly assess and enhance member protection measures in accordance with ethical standards and practical considerations.

Page 3 of 5 Week 5 Worksheet - MMS704 Sport Ethics and Integrity This week our guest lecturer was Sam Dellamarta from Dellamarta consulting. Please summarize some of the key points you found interesting from her discussion on safeguarding in sport. Please post a question on the discussion board that we can ask Sam and write your questions in the below text box. These are some main key points found in the discussion on safeguarding in sports. International Bodies and rules: discusses about the several international bodies that create rules for safeguarding athletes internationally, such the International Olympic Committee and Sport Integrity Australia. The conversation focused on a few significant obstacles to putting safeguards in place in grassroots sports, especially in groups run by volunteers. The discussion highlighted the issue's complexity, particularly in consideration of the volunteer-based approach and structural limitations seen in sports organizations. Accountability and responsibility as a general topic were also discussed. Although safeguarding others' well-being should be everyone's concern, the existing organizational structures frequently assign this responsibility to certain persons or offices, which may not be sufficient for effective implementation. The use of incentives, such as financing opportunities, to promote compliance and involvement in safeguarding programs was also mentioned. To be effective, these incentives must, however, be accompanied by sufficient resources and support. The discussion highlighted the complexity of sports safeguarding and the significance of continuous efforts to enhance procedures at all organizational levels.
