Part A Resource 1-Enchanted Learning Appropriateness of Resource: Age or Grade Level The Spanish/English bilingual dictionary is a good resource for students in grades K-12. This bilingual dictionary allows children to translate and look up the meaning of words. The dictionary uses pictures to help convey meaning which can be very helpful for younger students. The words are categorized in alphabetical order. Appropriateness of Resource: Learning Styles This digital source is great for visual learners. Each word has a picture to help children understand the definition of words. The bilingual dictionary also helps students to make connections using prior knowledge. Students can relate the pictures to what they already know. Appropriateness of Resource: Language Proficiency Level The resource is most helpful to younger students who are just starting to learn/translate words. It is more suitable for those on a beginner level. All of the visuals make it easier for younger students to comprehend. Cultural Connection The dictionary helps students to make connections by showing visuals. The visuals help students relate and make connections to their primary language. Support of Language and Content-Area Abilities This resource supports learning and expanding vocabulary in content areas. It can be used to translate and look up the definition of a word. In addition to the dictionary, the site provides activities and worksheets to help reinforce learning. The resource supports social and academic language by providing definitions/meanings to various words. Communicative Activity I would have students look up vocabulary words in the bilingual dictionary. Students would work in groups to discuss the definitions and pictures. Each group would create and present a poster displaying the vocabulary words/definitions. The rest of the class will provide feedback as to whether or not they agree with the meanings. Resource 2- ABC Mouse ELL
Appropriateness of Resource: Age or Grade Level ABC Mouse ELL is a digital resource used to promote learning in several different content areas. This resource is appropriate for children ages 2-8. Appropriateness of Resource: Learning Styles This source is digital and can be used for all learning styles. It supports visual, auditory, etc. Appropriateness of Resource: Language Proficiency Level The source is best for younger students who are on a beginner level. The engaging program allows students to move up to different levels as they begin to make progress. The program offers games where students must listen and respond to questions. Cultural Connection The resource teaches English as a second language. The program teaches them English by starting students at a beginner level and encourage them to use prior knowledge to make connections. The use of auditory and visual material helps students make connections to help with comprehension. The program helps students make connections to their primary language by showing visuals and starting them at a level that he or she can comprehend. If the student does not know any English, then he or she would start at the lowest level. Support of Language and Content-Area Abilities ABC Mouse ELL helps enhance English language skills in a developmentally and appropriate way. The program helps with phonemic awareness and building fluency. In addition to language skills, the program offers activities for math, science, etc. The resource supports social and academic language by it uses common and uncommon vocabulary words. Communicative Activity I would have students work in groups to act out a story on ABC Mouse. Students would need to determine who was going to play which role. They will present the story to the class. The class will try to guess the title of the story. Resource 3 Brainpop ELL Appropriateness of Resource: Age or Grade Level A digital resource used in grades K through 8 th used to promote learning in several different content areas. Appropriateness of Resource: Learning Styles This source is digital and great for all learning styles. It supports visual, auditory, etc. Appropriateness of Resource: Language Proficiency Level

Communicative Activity I would choose a story on Brainpop and have students analyze the vocabulary words in groups prior to reading the story and after reading the story. Then they would compare the definitions of before and after. Students will then determine if their definitions were correct and how their definitions compared to the rest of the class. Resource 4 Starfall Appropriateness of Resource: Age or Grade Level Starfall is a great website for EL students who are in grades Pre-k through 5 th . Appropriateness of Resource: Learning Styles This source is digital and great for all learning styles. It supports visual, auditory, etc. Appropriateness of Resource: Language Proficiency Level The source is best for younger students who are on a beginner level. Students can utilize songs, games, videos, etc. Cultural Connection The program offers games and activities to help students comprehend content in English. There are many visuals for students to use to relate their primary language to English. Support of Language and Content-Area Abilities Starfall is a great way for ELs to enhance knowledge in phonemic awareness, fluency, and vocabulary. Students can listen to a story to learn new words and answer comprehension questions to see what they understood. There are many books for students to read/listen to,
however most only support social language because most of the words are CVC words. CVC words are great for beginner readers because they are basic words that are easy to read. These words are in many stories on Starfall and help to reinforce social language because students have to sound out the words. CVC words are simple words, such as cat, hat, etc. These words are examples of social language. In addition, academic language is supported because students learn vocabulary, such as vowel and consonant. Students also identify which letters are vowels and consonants which helps them to sound out the words. Communicative Activity There are games that could be played with a partner on Starfall. I would pair students up with a game. Students would be encouraged to work together to complete the questions. One student would read the question and the other would answer the question. Then the students discuss if they agree on the answer. Students will then swap rolls so that both students have turns reading and answering questions. Resource 5 Newsela Appropriateness of Resource: Age or Grade Level Newsela offers reading resources for students to read online. It is for students in grades K through 12. Appropriateness of Resource: Learning Styles This source is digital and best for linguistic learning styles. Appropriateness of Resource: Language Proficiency Level This source is best for those at an intermediate or advanced level because it does not offer any pictures. It may not be as engaging to some learners as other resources. There are different Lexile levels that can be chosen to accommodate each reader. Cultural Connection The articles are offered in many different languages and can be related to a student’s home life. Students can chose to read the article in their primary language. Students can also choose articles that relate to their culture, such as articles about traditions. Support of Language and Content-Area Abilities This resource is great for learning new vocabulary words and gaining knowledge in different content areas, such as science or social studies. Newsela also helps with comprehension and provides questions for students to answer about the articles. It is a great source that primarily supports academic language for students. Communicative Activity
I will have students choose an article and work with a partner to find sight words. They will highlight and identify the words together. Students will write the words on index cards and post them on our tricky word wall. The class will read the words and decide if they agree that the words are tricky. Resource 6 Lexia Appropriateness of Resource: Age or Grade Level Lexia is a resource used for students in grades K-6. Appropriateness of Resource: Learning Styles Lexia is a good source for all learning styles. It offers pictures and videos and is great for visual and auditory learners. Appropriateness of Resource: Language Proficiency Level This resource is best for intermediate or emerging readers. It offers different levels and students move up levels as they progress. Lexia helps improve students language proficiency levels and promotes fluency. Cultural Connection Students may click on language support to hear directions in their primary language. This feature is very helpful because it ensures students understand directions and helps them make connections. Support of Language and Content-Area Abilities This resource is great for helping ELs improve language proficiency. It also helps students with fluency and language development. Students listen to stories and answer questions about what they read. The resource also offers games where students must identify academic vocabulary such as, nouns, adjectives, etc. Communicative Activity I will choose a video from Lexia and have student’s discuss the topic of the video with a partner. I will also have them discuss what they learned from the video. Students will create a poster of what they have learned and share it with the class. The class will provide feedback and share what part of the poster was helpful. Resource 7- Reading Eggs Appropriateness of Resource: Age or Grade Level

Reading Eggs is an online program intended for ages 2 through 13. The program is used to help students with phonemic awareness and fluency. Appropriateness of Resource: Learning Styles Reading Eggs is a digital source for visual and auditory learners. The resource incorporates pictures in videos to help students learn. Appropriateness of Resource: Language Proficiency Level This resource can be used at a beginner’s level and will adjust and go up levels as needed. It is good for students who are just learning the English language. Cultural Connection The resource helps with phonemic awareness which helps students learn letter and sounds. This feature is very helpful for ELs just learning English because it allows them to learn sounds and sound out words just as they did in their home language. Support of Language and Content-Area Abilities Reading Eggs is great for phonics, phonemic awareness, and fluency. The resource provides activities to master all of the skills needed in order to become a successful reader. The resource supports speaking, listening, and reading. Eggy vocabulary can be found on Reading Eggs. This feature allows students to expand their vocabulary in both social/academic language by offering games where students can click on a word/picture and listen to the word. Students then have to match the word with the correct picture. Students learn several vocabulary words such as, monkey, bear, etc. Communicative Activity I would have students work in groups to read a story on Reading Eggs and create a KWL chart to go along with the story. Students will compare their charts to other groups to see how they were to compare similarities/differences on their KWL charts. Resource 8- International Children’s Digital Library Appropriateness of Resource: Age or Grade Level The International Children’s Digital Library can be used in grades K through 12 th . Appropriateness of Resource: Learning Styles The digital source is great for visual learners. There are several pictures throughout the stories. Appropriateness of Resource: Language Proficiency Level This resource can be used with beginner, intermediate, or advanced levels.
Cultural Connection This resource features books written in 2 different languages. You can look for stories in your primary language and find the language you want it to be translated. Both languages are written on the same page. This feature is helpful because students can compare their home language to the language that they are learning. Support of Language and Content-Area Abilities The resource supports language and covers many different content areas. Students can access stories in their home language and view them in another language. Both translations of the stories can be viewed on the same page so students can compare. Students can read books about Social Studies, Science, etc. This resource supports social and academic language by using a variety of vocabulary words throughout the stories. Communicative Activity I would have students work together in groups to compare the different languages of the stories. I would have them answer questions, such as are there any words that look similar in both languages and/or were you able to make out any words in the other language. They will each have to find one similarity/difference. They will share their comparisons to the rest of the class and discuss if they had similar findings.
Part B B1 EL Informational Resource 1- Classroom Rules B2 The target level of language proficiency would be entering and/or emerging. B3 This resource is designed to help students understand our classroom rules. Students can use this resource if they are unable to read English but can understand and interpret visuals. The pictures help the students comprehend and understand what is being asked of them. There are phrases instead of sentences to help students understand.

B1 EL Informational Resource 2 - Feelings B2 The target level of language proficiency would be emerging. B3 This resource is to help students identify and express how they are feeling. Visuals are used to help students identify their emotions. Students demonstrate knowledge of feelings and be able to find the face that matches their feeling on the poster.
B1 EL Informational Resource 3 - Commands B2 The target level of proficiency would be beginning. B3 This resource provides a visual of the command so the student understands what to do and say. For this resource, students must say and clap 3 times. They must look at the teacher after saying “all eyes on me.” The resource helps students understand exactly what to do and say using visuals.
