For Presentation Challenges Title: Challenges and Considerations in EHR Implementation 1. Cost of Implementation and usage: Building and maintaining an EHR can be costly. Cost includes software development and hardware purchase (servers, storage). Security measures like encryption and intrusion detection add to the cost. 2. Training and Education Training staff on new EHR workflows is essential. Training requires time, energy, and resources. EHR complexity can be overwhelming for staff. 3. Data Security and Privacy Protecting sensitive patient data is critical. Cyberattacks pose a significant threat. Breaches can lead to legal action and loss of trust. 4. Cultural Problems Some users may reject EHR due to technical issues.
Weak physician-patient relationships can lead to rejection. 5. Current System Compatibility Compatibility challenges with existing systems are common. Interoperability with other hospital systems is crucial. Multiple platforms may require adjustments. 6. Workflow Disruption Poorly tailored EHR implementation can disrupt workflow. Lack of education on real-time functionality can lead to issues. Conclusion EHR implementation involves various challenges and considerations. Proper planning, training, and security measures are essential.
Resolutions Title: Resolutions for Successful EHR Implementation 1. Implementation Cost Resolution Proper budgeting and funding are essential for EHR implementation. A well-implemented EHR can result in enhanced revenue and reduced costs. Detailed budgeting and securing adequate funding are crucial. 2. Training and Education Resolution Hire experts for comprehensive initial training during the roll-over period. Select super-users for strategy training in various Health Information System departments. Encourage peer-to-peer training for an expedited learning process. Utilize various training methods like classroom-based, hands-on, one-on-one, and e- learning modules. 3. Data Security and Privacy Resolution Ensure EHR system complies with HIPAA and HITECH regulations. Implement robust security measures such as data encryption, regular security audits, and access controls. Educate staff on the importance of patient privacy and security.

4. Cultural Problems Resolution Advertise EHR benefits through social media to educate the public. Motivate related organizations to adopt EHR systems. Ensure proper training for individuals involved. 5. Current System Compatibility Resolution Seek advice from software development partners regarding system compatibility. Collaborate to identify and mitigate real-time compatibility issues. Ensure compatibility for minimized risks. 6. Workflow Disruption Resolution Establish consistent workflow through proper training and troubleshooting. Collaborate with vendors to ensure smooth EHR implementation. Conclusion Resolving these challenges is key to successful EHR implementation. Strategic planning and partnerships are crucial for success.
For Report Challenges Implementation of a new EHR system is usually considered as a tedious task taking into consideration of the planning process which is critical for minimizing the errors. Assessments of the standards for selecting and executing the EHR system with the aim of ensuring the seamless exchange of patients’ data, safeguarding its privacy, ensuring its accessibility along with the maintenance of its accuracy and security is crucial. This further involves ensuring that the reports are generated in timely manner, are precise and are compliant with the relevant regulations (Roboam et al., 2019). Implementation Cost Building and maintaining an EHR which abides by PHIPA can be proven costly for an organization. This channel encircles various aspects of financial planning as well as resources allocation. The cost of EHR implementation involves the software development, purchase of hardware including servers, storage systems, which can cost a lot, especially for a large health care organization. Furthermore, for the security, encryption, access controls and intrusion detection systems are required, which adds more to the initial cost of EHR setup (Arora, n.d.). Training and Education Introduction of a new EHR comes with a challenge of training the staff on the new workflow procedures. Admittedly, this comes at a cost of time, energy along with the resources,
which may strain the financial resources of an organization. Not only this, EHR can be complex with numerous features and functionalities. Therefore, training the staff on a new system could be overwhelming (CMMS, n.d.). Data Security and Privacy Sensitive patient information is entered into EHRs which must be protected from theft, unauthorized access, or loss. Cyberattacks are increasing at an unprecedented rate, therefore, due to lack of proper network security and other issues, healthcare organizations can fall victim to hacking. These security breaches may lead to significant consequences, such as legal action and loss of trust from patients. (John Lynch and Associates, 2023) Cultural problems Implementation of EHR’s may be rejected by some users if there are initial technical issues. Additionally, rejection may also occur at consumer level due to weakness of relationship between physician and the patient (Jahanbakhsha et al., 2011). Current System Compatibility A hospital should be ready to face compatibility challenges once they decide to integrate EHR. EHR interoperability with other systems that hospital utilizes is extremely pivotal. Encountering problems with compatibility should be anticipated as most hospitals implement multiple platforms. Sometimes, EHR implementation can completely disrupt the practice workflow if the implementation is not properly tailored to serve its intended purpose. Moreover, due to lack of proper education and demonstration of how implementation will function in real time, workflow disruption may occur. (Eka.Stories, 2023)
Resolutions Implementation Cost Even though the cost of implementing a new EHR system may be high, but if the budgeting and funding is done is a smart and persuasive manner, a properly implemented EHR system can be result in enhanced revenue, reduced costs and increase in efficiency. A detailed budget could be set and adequate funding should be secured(Bailey, n.d.). Training and Education To make the training period convenient, experts should be hired to train everyone in the initial roll over period for comprehensive training(CMMS, n.d.). Post the initial training, strategy training should be implemented by selecting super-users, who post the initial training session, can be considered as Subject Matter Expert for their allotted Health Information System departments, namely, billing, quality, etc(Roboam et al., 2019).This peer to peer approach facilitates the training process. Apart from this, class-room based trainings, hands-on practice, one-on-one, e-learning modules can expedite the entire learning and roll over experience (Roboam et al., 2019). Data Security and Privacy In order to ensure data security and privacy of patient health information, hospitals should make it their priority that EHR system complies with the HIPAA and HITECH regulations. To add further, robust security measures such as data encryption, regular security audits and access controls should be implemented. It is the onus of the hospital to ensure proper
training of the staff to educate them regarding the importance of maintaining patient privacy and security (John Lynch and Associates, 2023). Cultural problems EHR implementation benefits should be explained to the public by advertising through various social media. Related organizations should be motivated to adopt EHR, and proper training of the concerned individuals must be ensured (Jahanbakhsha et al., 2011). Current System Compatibility Seek advice from the software development partner regarding the compatibility of hospital’s systems with the future EHR they create. By working together on this, real time problems can be identified and mitigated along the path ensuring compatibility and minimized risks (Intellect Soft, n.d.). Workflow disruption Through proper trainings and troubleshooting, organization along with the vendors should ensure to establish a consistent workflow in practice for implementing EHRs (Eka.Stories, 2023).
