Project Management Planning and Estimating – Assignment #1: Project Prioritization
Recommendation
** Project recommendations are listed based on the priority rating.
Project 4: Escape from Rio Japuni
Project 4: Escape from Rio Japuni is recommended to be further developed for the following reasons. This project meets the company’s all “Must Objectives” and scored the highest in “Want Objectives”. This animation feature is set in the Amazon rainforest. The scenery in the movie will definitely have a high potential to be nominated for Best Picture of the Year. This film will have multiple characters that can be made into merchandise dolls and figurines, and the film can be made into interactive games following the same storyline as the film. The film will raise big public consciousness about environmental issues and concerns as the storyline is about
local clearcutting and how it is impacting the animals and nature. The estimated profit for this film is 26.8%. As it was done in different animated films, this film can be developed into 3D and 4D or real-life animation. Last of all, as the film is taking place in the Amazon rainforest with multiple animal characters, theme parks can be easily developed based on the film, and rides can be developed featuring the adventure of the main character.
Project 6: Keiko – One Whale of a Story
Project 6: Keiko – One Whale of a Story is recommended to be further developed for the following reasons. This project meets the company’s all “Must Objectives”, and scored the second highest in “Want Objectives”. The film background is set in the ocean and features whales, and the colour scheme and scenery will increase the potential of being nominated for Best Picture of the Year. This film is about a whale and its treatment by humans. This storyline 2

will raise environmental awareness of wildlife to the general public. The estimated profit for this
film is 18.8%. This film can easily be developed into 3D, 4D or real-life animation. And this film is
developed by integrating actual footage of the whale within a realistic animated environment using state-of-the art computer imagery. As the theme is clear, it has the potential to develop into a theme park, aquarium or waterpark.
Project 2: Heidi
The film Heidi is recommended to be further developed with low priority. This film features the Swiss Alps which scenery in the movie will lead to a high potential of winning the Best Picture of
the Year. CDs and albums can easily be developed as merchandise as the music is written by award-winning composers. This film may raise environmental issues and concerns as searching the Swiss Alps may lead to articles related to environmental issues. The estimated profit for this film is 17.6% missing 0.4% from the 18% profit. However, as it features top-name stars, the marketing strategy may change the profit to increase. This film can easily be made with advanced animation technics and further developed into 3D animation. As it is a folk tale-based storyline, it might be an innovative theme park, however, there still is a potential to be developed into a theme park or spa resort.
Project 1: My Life with Dalai Lama
Project 1: My Life with Dalai Lama is recommended for further development with low priority. The film is taking place in Tibet, Nepal. The film will have great scenery so there is a chance of it being nominated for Best Picture of the Year. Merchandise may be developed as an animated 3

game based on the storyline, and possibly dolls or other merchandise can be developed. This film does not focus on any environmental factors and therefore it will not raise any public consciousness about environmental issues and concerns. The estimated profit is 20.2%. There is
a possibility of this film being developed using 3D technics. The development of a theme park may be difficult as it is a very specific setting and as it features a specific religion (Buddhism), a theme park is not appropriate.
Project 5: Nadia!
The film Nadia! Is not recommended to be further developed. The Naida! meets all the “Must Objective” criteria. However, it only meets only one “Want Objective”. This film may have a possibility of winning the Best Picture of the Year award as it is featuring a gold medal-winning gymnast. Merchandise may be developed but it will not be eye-catching merchandise, therefore
merchandise revenue may be low. This film does not contain any environmental factors, therefore it will not raise any public consciousness about environmental issues and not meet the stakeholder’s expectations. The estimated profit for this film is 17.9%. This film is difficult to use any advanced animation film technics. And last of all, the development of theme parks is not possible as the film features a specific individual and the development may face legal issues.
Project 3: The Year of the Echo
Project 3: The Year of the Echo is not recommended. This film does not meet two of the “Must Objectives”. This film will not be PG or P rated as contains nudity and drug use. This movie will not meet the legal and safety standards. 4
Project Management Planning and Estimating – Assignment #1: Project Prioritization
Project 7: Grand Island
The Film Grand Island is not recommended to be further developed. This film does not meet the
one of “Must Objectives”. After the release of the film, this film can affect viewers’ perceptions of fertilizer plants. This may affect the fertilizer industry.
This approach to selecting and prioritizing projects allows for comparing all the proposed projects and allows for prioritization of project initiation. This approach assists stakeholders or the priority team decision-making process on what project to accept and reject based on the company’s mission statement and whether the project will align with it. This form is distinguished between “Must objectives” and “Want objectives”. If the project is not meeting the “Must Objective”, it can be rejected immediately, and the remaining projects can be ranked based on the weighted score of “Want Objectives”. This process helps the company to not waste
resources and time as projects can be rejected before it begins, or to initiate high-priority projects before other projects. Other organizations can use this approach to ensure the proposed projects align with their organization's mission statement. When five projects are proposed to senior leaders of organization A, if they initiate projects without prioritizing, it may lead to a conflict of resources and therefore may delay the project completion. This will affect the rest of the organization and the project team may lose motivation by not being able to contribute to the project. If senior leaders prioritize using this approach, they are able to reject one of the low priority that may cause conflict in resource availability, or combine the projects with another project that share 5
