Hey everyone, A task board is a method of representing the path of a scrum sprint and its progress. It usually includes columns like “to do”, “in progress” and “completed” but there can be more tasks depending on the choice of the team (Rubin, 2016). They can either be manual or virtual. Since task boards are primarily used to display the progress of the sprint and show what tasks need to be completed within the sprint, the major benefit of it would be that all this information is available in one place. It makes it easier to access and manage and also understand as there are no complicated processes involved in making these boards. It helps the team organize the workflow within a sprint (Lynn, n.d.). There are two types of task boards, manual and virtual. Manual task boards usually involve post-it notes or pieces of paper stuck to a whiteboard or a wall with tasks and information written on them. They are color-coded so that each kind of task is easily distinguishable from the other kinds. They do not use any software for this kind of board. Some teams even use Legos to make these boards! The virtual type of task board is usually made in scrum software like Jira, Trello, Asana, Airtable, etc (Prokopets, n.d.). The organization columns are usually built-in for these kinds of software and the tasks are manually entered and segregated. Although it is an important part of organization of a sprint it is not mandatory for a team to use a task board. It is a way to represent all the necessary information in one place and it makes communication and organization easier for the team during a sprint. References: Rubin, K.S. (2016, July 26).
