CNIT 180 Lab 2: Context System Modeling EXERCISES Complete the exercises assigned by your instructor by drawing the assigned models. Save each diagram. Copy and paste each diagram into Lab 02 – Context System Modeling – Student Answers. Save that document to your home directory. Close that document. Attach Lab 02 – Context System Modeling – Student Answers to the Lab 02 Assignment in Brightspace and submit. 1. Create a Context Model Diagram describing the Northwind information system. Use the tables, forms, and reports in Northwind to determine the actors and data flows. Remember to label the actors, data flows, and data process. Answer: Assumption: Customers will set an order through an employee as only employees have access to the Northwind Information System. Therefore, input of order is done by employee. Northwind will output customer details to employees who can then input the details into the order table. Suppliers will get an output from Northwind regarding the order details so the suppliers will know what products to supply. Shippers will get the shipping information of the customers from Northwind and the customer will get an invoice from Northwind and will input the payment to Northwind.
CNIT 180 Lab 2: Context System Modeling 2. Create a Context Model Diagram describing a student scheduling system that handles the following situation. The master scheduler inputs information about courses, instructors, and sections to the system. Students can make inquiries about the available sections for each course, and can also add or drop a section. Student schedules are available to the students, course rosters are available to the instructors, and management reports are available to the master scheduler. Remember to label the actors, data flows, and data process. Answer: Assumption: The Master Scheduler will input all the information into the Student Scheduling System. The student can input any inquiries and will get the course information as an output. Students can input to add/drop a section. The student scheduling system will output a schedule for the student, the course roster to the instructor and the management report for the master scheduler.
CNIT 180 Lab 2: Context System Modeling 3. Create a Context Model Diagram describing an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) for the following situation. A bank patron would input his/her ATM card, their PIN, the transaction type, and the transaction amount (all separate data flows). At the end of the event, they would receive their card back along with a receipt (combined data flow). Be sure to include and label the symbols for a data process, actors, and data flows. Answer: 4. Given the following system narrative, create a Context Model Diagram. CIT Alumni Information System . An unregistered CIT graduate must first submit a system registration request to use the system and, once registered, the registered CIT graduate will receive a system ID and password. Once they have submitted a login request and they receive confirmation, they can submit add news item requests, submit a post resume request, and submit demographic modification request as well as submitting ID and password modification request. With each of these transactions they will receive confirmation of successful completion. Resumes are posted for two months. At the conclusion of the second month the resume is deleted and a notification of resume deletion is sent to the résumé’s owner saying that it was deleted. The system administrator is responsible for adding news items or picture requests, and adding virtual tours requests. With each of these transactions they will receive confirmation of successful completion. At the end of each month, a monthly registered users & new registered users report is generated and sent to the system

CNIT 180 Lab 2: Context System Modeling administrator. NOTE: In order to simplify the diagram, do NOT show any confirmation responses or inquiry responses. State those assumption (and any others) on your diagram. Do NOT combine data flows. Answer: 5. Given the following system narrative, create a Context Model Diagram. RipUOFF (RUF) Banking Center Information System. Security: to gain access to the system a User must submit a login request (user id, password, and successfully answer 1 of 5 random questions which the User has already supplied answers for during the registration process). A User must register with the above information by submitting a registration request before they are allowed to login. For successful access, the system will provide a confirmation to the User. If unsuccessful, an error message will be provided. The system allows three unsuccessful attempts before locking the account. If the password is 60 days or older, the system requires the User to change their password. Note: the User may request to change their password at any time – the User will receive a confirmation once their password has been changed successfully. The system shall support Customer checking accounts. A Customer may request a deposit or a withdrawal from their checking account (2 separate data flows). A receipt is generated for both deposits and withdrawals (may be combined) which is provided to the Customer. The system shall support a Customer submitting a loan application and the Customer will receive a loan request confirmation once the application has been recorded successfully. (Applications are not reviewed immediately.) The system will generate checking account Monthly Statements on the first day of the month that will be sent to the Customer. The system shall allow a Bank Lending Agent to review pending loan applications for approval. If approved, the Customer receives a loan contract, and if not approved, they receive a rejection letter.
CNIT 180 Lab 2: Context System Modeling ASSUMPTIONS: DO NOT ASSUME THAT THE USER AND THE CUSTOMER ARE THE SAME ACTOR. Confirmations, error messages, and responses can be combined. Clearly document all assumptions. Answer:
