Wireshark Packet Capture Analysis
In this Wireshark packet capture project, I aimed to understand network traffic by capturing packets during a visit to www.nvcc.edu. the experiment was conducted by following the steps outlined in the assignment.
Capture Details:
I initiated the capture on Wireshark, focusing on the network interface associated with my internet connection. After allowing the capture to run for about 30 seconds, I stopped it and analyzed the collected data.
Packet Count:
The packet capture revealed 4342 packets during the observation period. Each packet provides valuable information about the website visited.
Protocols Identified:
Upon analyzing the captured packets, I observed the usage of various network protocols. Notably, HTTP, TCP, and DNS, which helped show the underlying communication occuring in the website.
Source and Destination Addresses:
In the captured packets, I saw several source and destination addresses. One of the source addresses included 127.0.0.1, which is known as the loopback address. Conversely, one of the destination addresses was 203.145.120.55, representing the endpoints of outgoing communication.
Insights and Reflection:
This experiment using Wireshark offered a practical understanding of how data is exchanged over the network. It highlighted the significance of protocols in allowing for communication and showed the many sources and destinations involved in a simple website.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, the Wireshark packet capture project provided quite a bit of insight into network communication. The analysis of packet details, including protocols and addresses, strengthens comprehension of the processes during online interactions.
