IT 226 4-1 Activity: Blog Post for Revision SnarlReporter SnarlReporter is a web application that uses Artificial Intelligence to monitor public traffic cameras and collect data about traffic conditions. Artificial Intelligence is a machine’s ability to collect and analyze data to learn and make predictions - functions we usually associate with human consciousness. SnarlReporter then uses this data to create a color-coded real time visual representation of the traffic conditions present. This web application will be beneficial for customers worldwide who need to understand traffic conditions and how or why they occur. The goal of the developers for SnarlReporter is to provide a tool that can be used by city planners, as well as state and federal governments, to perform traffic studies. These types of studies need to be performed when creating plans for public transportation projects, such as rail and high-speed trains, as well as roadway modifications that would improve traffic flow and ease commute times. These studies require a significant amount of time and resources to complete, which may lead to project delays and inflated costs. Since SnarlReporter is driven by publicly available data, access to the system can be provided at low costs, which will in turn lead to faster completion times for these projects. There will be two tiers available for SnarlReporter users. The first tier will provide access to SnarlReporter at no cost; however, these users will not be able to download the traffic data for future analysis. The second tier will be for paying customers and will include additional features, such as access to historical traffic data and the ability to create customizable reports within the application. Regardless of tier, users of the SnarlReporter application will receive a user manual which will detail how to toggle between different options in the application, show or hide information, change display settings, and customize their reports. In future versions of the application, the system will use historical accident data to explain the cause of irregular traffic jams. The use of data smoothing techniques, such as eliminating outliers, may eliminate the need for this feature; however, his can only be determined after a functional prototype has been built and a significant sample of data has been collected and analyzed.
