2 Two HIPAA Regulations for Health Care Providers The Privacy Rule is an essential part of HIPAA's restrictions on medical practitioners. This regulation establishes minimal national standards for safeguarding patients' personal health information. The Privacy Rule applies to any and all types of personally identifiable health information that may be kept or communicated in healthcare ( Moore & Frye, 2019). The Privacy Rule limits these organizations' ability to trade or misuse individuals' protected health information (PHI). Individuals should be able to access and control the use and sharing of their personal health information. The HIPAA Security Rule is another component of the healthcare law that plays a significant role. This regulation mandates that covered organizations put in place necessary administrative, technical, and physical in order to guard the availability, confidentiality, and integrity of electronically stored PHI ( Moore & Frye, 2019). The Security Rule also specifies baseline safeguards for electronic protected health information (ePHI), such as encryption and storage standards. Furthermore, the Security Rule requires covered enterprises to undertake risk assessments on a regular basis in order to uncover security concerns and certify the efficacy of their security measures. Time When you Have Signed a Form Related To HIPAA After visiting a doctor, I was required to sign a HIPAA form. It was a HIPAA Privacy Notice outlining my precautions and the office's HIPAA-related responsibilities. My PHI would be used, disclosed, and safeguarded in line with the terms specified on the form. It highlighted my rights to view, assess, and seek changes to my health information, as well as the doctor's
3 office's rules and procedures for safeguarding such data. I signed and dated the paper to demonstrate that I have read and understood its contents. Knowledge as the Consumer on The Regulations of HIPAA I am now aware of my patient and consumer rights as a result of HIPAA laws and education programs. My doctor took the time to clarify my HIPAA rights to me, and I now understand how critical it is to protect the security of my medical data. I was also told that I would be able to access, review, and modify my medical records. My doctor also went through the purposes, disclosures, and protections for my medical records. I feel more in control of my medical care and that my privacy is protected after learning about my patient rights. Whether or Not Your Provider Adequately Informed me my Rights My healthcare professional did provide me a thorough explanation of my HIPAA precautions. They were very thorough in explaining my rights and responding to my queries. My doctor's office also sent me with a HIPAA Privacy Notice outlining my legal protections and their legal obligations. Furthermore, my inquiries were swiftly and completely addressed. My healthcare provider performed an excellent job of explaining my legal protections and giving me the information, I needed to make educated decisions regarding the use, disclosure, and protection of my personal health information. How HIPAA Supports or Doesn’t Support the NASW Code of Ethics (2008) The HIPAA Security Rule provides security guidelines for personally identifiable health information that are consistent with the NASW Code of Ethics (2008). The Privacy Rule limits health care practitioners' use and sharing of PHI. Individuals should be able to access and control the use and sharing of their personal health information ( Moore & Frye, 2019). All covered

4 businesses are required under the Security Rule to secure electronic PHI against unauthorized access, disclosure, or destruction. These HIPAA requirements meet social workers' ethical obligation to preserve their clients' privacy and confidentiality. The HIPAA regulations provide extra security for clients' health information, which is compatible with social workers' goal of improving their clients' quality of life.
