Running head: STRATEGIES TO MANAGE AND ORGANIZE DATA 1 DISCUSS TWO STRATEGIES THAT WOULD HELP A RESEARCHER MANAGE AND ORGANIZE THE DATA Student’s Name Institution Affiliation
STRATEGIES TO MANAGE AND ORGANIZE DATA 2 Observation, interviews, and questionnaires are all used in producing qualitative data. Besides, qualitative research forms a narrative that reflects on viewpoints or realities linked to study subjects. Clark and Veale (2018) indicates that qualitative research is a major component in the field of epidemiologic studies since it offers insights into opinions, perceptions, and values when investigations are being performed. Hence, since a rigorous method is used in collecting and compiling data, researchers may become overwhelmed. As a result, the researchers need to have a clear system to organize and manage data. So what strategies can be used? The first strategy that can be used in the formation and application of codes. Clark and Veale (2018) defines coding as a phrase used in describing transitional undertaking between data gathering and analysis, whereby data is categorized. Methods that can be used in categorizing the data include a labor-intensive approach, outdated manual strategies such as filing cabinets, or using software like Atlas. After the data has been coded, the researcher can group and review the codes based on themes or patterns, making it simpler for them to analyze and form a discussion. The second strategy that can be applied is condensing. According to Wolff et al. (2018), condensing entails selecting, simplifying, and abstracting the available data of the original observation, then changing the condensed data into sets that can ease the analysis process. Also, it is crucial to note that condensing uses several steps which enable close supervision. In conclusion, a researcher needs to maintain control over data during a study since multiple codes may be present. Also, using the above-stated strategies can help in ensuring a researcher isn’t overwhelmed by data.
