5-04 Conflict (30 Points)
Conflict is an important element of any story and it plays a key role in the novel. Think of
all of the conflicts that you have read about in chapters 1-23. Fill in the chart below with
the conflicts that the characters experience. You may refer back to the lesson to review
different types of conflict. Each response is worth 2 points.
Conflict #1
The widow cannot adopt Huck, according to
Papa.
Explanation of Conflict
The judge was quite keen that Huck be
adopted, as was the widow who had attempted
to assist him. But Pap, Huck's biological father,
won't allow that to happen in the
slightest.

Pap' takes a huck.
Explanation of Conflict
Huck is effectively kidnapped by his father,
Pap. And he severely beats him while taking
him to the cabin in the woods.
