Assignment 7 – Global Interconnectedness
Running head: Unit 7 Assignment2 Part 2 – Written Paper 1. The following information is listed for the configuration of a router: Internet Port: LAN Port: MAC Address – 00:21:3D:AE:2C:A6 MAC Address - 00:21:3D:AE:2C:A5 IP Address – 70.115.23.137 IP Address – 192.168.1.1 DHCP – DHCP Client DHCP – OFF IP Subnet Mask – 255.255.240.0 IP Subnet Mask – 255.255.255.0 Domain Name Server - 209.18.47.61, 209.18.47.62 a. The two MAC addresses are different. What is a MAC address, and why are the two different even though this is a single router? In the computer’s networking, MAC (Media Access Control) address is each bit as essential as the IP address. MAC address is the unique value which is associated with the network’s adapter. MAC address is also called as physical address or hardware address. They identify uniquely the adapter on the LAN. MAC addresses are the twelve digit hexa-decimal numbers. By the convention, MAC address is mostly written in the following formats like MM-MM-MM-SS-SS-SS or MM:MM:MM:SS:SS:SS 1 st half of the MAC addresses contain an ID number of the manufacturer of adapter. This ID is regulated by the Internet standard body. 2 nd half of the MAC addresses represent a serial number assigned to adapter by manufacturer. In this example, we have 2 various MAC addresses like 00:21:3D :AE:2C:A6 and 00:21:3D :AE:2C:A5 Prefix 00:21:3D indicates Cermetek Microelectronics, Inc (a manufacturer). Last part is the assigned unique number of manufacturer. b. The two IP addresses are different. What is an IP address, and why are the two different even though this is a single router? The IP (Internet Protocol) address is the numerical label which has assigned for every device participating in the computer’s network which uses Internet Protocol for the communication. Each machine on Internet has the unique identify number which is known as IP Address. The IP address may looks like this for example: 70.115.23.137 for making this easier for us for remembering, the IP addresses are generally expressed in the decimal format as the dotted
Running head: Unit 7 Assignment3 decimal number. And computer communicates in the binary form. For example similar IP address in binary is 01000110011100110001011110001001 The 4 numbers in the IP address are known as octet, they each have 8 positions if viewed in the binary form. When we add all positions together, we get thirty two that is why the IP address is considered thirty two bit numbers. Since every of 8 positions may have 2 various states the total number of the possible combination per octet is 256 or 2 8 . Thus every octet may contain any values between zero & two hundred fifty five. Then combine the 4 octets & we get 2 32 Designer of Internet Protocol defined the IP address as the thirty two bit number & this system is called as IPv4 (Internet Protocols Version 4) which is still in use nowadays. 2. What are two advantages and two disadvantages of using dynamic IP address assignments? This process has a very important advantage for ISPs: they only need relatively small pools of IP addresses. Dynamic IP addresses are also favorable for users because it's not necessary for them to apply for static IP addresses in advance. They can connect to the Internet immediately. It's also not necessary for them to manage IP addresses. This saves trouble and costs. On the other hand, a user without a static IP address cannot be addressed directly from the Internet 3. List at least four services that are part of the Internet and differentiate what each facilitates. You should include the World Wide Web as one of your four services. The World Wide Web FTP

Running head: Unit 7 Assignment4 Email Servers(SMTP) web servers 4. You are asked by your manager give a brief report about the benefits of a global website. List two advantages of a globalized website. Website globalization enables companies to significantly increase the return on their existing investment into infrastructure, content development, engineering and overall marketing activities. What are two issues involved with creating and maintaining a globalized website? The main goal of successful website globalization is to provide access to the site's content and functionality to visitors in other target markets and in their own languages. How does a globalized website handle different currencies? Multi-currency payment processing enables a business to accept and process payments in different currencies from global customers. With the growth of e-commerce and the globalization of new markets, companies often encounter international customers who mostly prefer to pay in their local currencies. Describe in some detail how a globalized website handle different languages. The main goal of successful website globalization is to provide access to the site's content and functionality to visitors in other target markets and in their own languages. Globalized websites enhance visitor experiences and the likelihood they will stay on the site and ultimately proceed to fulfill the site's main objective.
