Unit 11 Forum
Find a video of a public speaker that you think is effective and persuasive. (Ted Talks
are a great source.) Analyze the speaker's performance, consider:
What elements of the presentation stood out?
What was strongest: the presentation's content or the presenter's
mannerisms?
Did the presenter use visual aids? Did they support the presenter's content?
Did the speaker engage the audience? If so, how?
How can you apply these exemplars to your own presentation (in this course
and in the future)?
Craft your analysis into a few paragraphs and paste a link to the video and your written
analysis into the Forum post.
Thank you for sharing the video. I agree with you, the speaker is very
knowledgeable and passionate about the work she does. She is meticulous,
focuses on the finest of details, and does her research thoroughly. She uses
visual aids sparingly and describes the places in terms of the feelings they
are meant to arouse in people using them. Her speech is on point about city
architecture is about how people are experiencing public spaces rather than
skyscrapers. I think since she was presenting at a TED talk people who
showed up would be very eager to talk, however, I would like liked her to
modulate her voice better and speak with enthusiasm. Despite that I thought
this was a good way of thinking about cities, connecting people and making
it a safe space for so many people. I think more city planners like her would
make the modern upcoming cities better than cities like San Francisco, Los
Angeles, New York city, etc.
