Unit 11 Forum
Find a video of a public speaker that you think is effective and persuasive. (Ted Talks
are a great source.) Analyze the speaker's performance, consider:
What elements of the presentation stood out?
What was strongest: the presentation's content or the presenter's
mannerisms?
Did the presenter use visual aids? Did they support the presenter's content?
Did the speaker engage the audience? If so, how?
How can you apply these exemplars to your own presentation (in this course
and in the future)?
Craft your analysis into a few paragraphs and paste a link to the video and your written
analysis into the Forum post.
What elements of the presentation stood out?
The Power of Vulnerability
was a TED Talk given by Brené Brown about
shame, vulnerability, and wholehearted living. Brown explains that in today’s
culture, it’s hard to ever feel like you’re “good enough,” so she shared
practices on how to stop feeling shame and comparing yourself to others.
The discussion questions and the practices that can be used to embrace
vulnerability and start living a wholehearted life.
What was strongest: the presentation's content or the presenter's
mannerisms?
The content was the strongest as this is an everyday problem and many
people don’t want to discuss shame or vulnerability. As a matter of fact,
these days people are much lonelier, more on the unhealthy side and have

be numb instead of pointing out their insecurities or shame. She also breaks
down the various aspects of vulnerability and shame and also addresses the
importance of these by offering different ways to embrace vulnerability and
begin living your life the way you wish to.
Did the presenter use visual aids? Did they support the presenter's
content?
The presenter did use a visual aid. The presenter used several pictures and
quotes to connect with the audience and make it easier when she displayed
a picture of two hands, one of a mother and another of a kid, by showing
how it relates to a connection. These pictures were accurately aligned to the
presenter's topic.
Did the speaker engage the audience? If so, how?
The speaker engaged the audience by using some pictures and some
humour as well. The video shows more than 59m views and 1.3m likes on the
video which clearly shows how well the
How can you apply these exemplars to your own presentation (in
this course and in the future)?
I discovered a lot of new aspects in this ted talk, such as making statements,
providing pertinent instances, and always backing up your claims with
information and evidence. I would follow the 10 practices in my life. I’d make
sure ill be humorous and will definitely use some nice pictures which can
boost my performance or my confidence. With a positive mannerism and a
little prep for the presentation, I can perform my best.
