Lesson 12 Discussion Forum Business intelligence and business analytics promise to deliver correct, nearly real-time information to decision makers, and the analytics capabilities to help them quickly understand this information to support evidence-based decision-making. Read Chapter 12: "Enhancing Decision Making" in your textbook and answer the following questions: Select an organization of your choice (excluding the three chapter cases) and describe how the organization is using a specific business analytics capability (e.g., descriptive analytics, predictive analytics, or prescriptive analytics) to improve management decision-making. Discuss how one of the following can degrade management decision-making in relation to your example above: (1) information quality; (2) management filters; or (3) organizational inertia and politics. Amazon strategically employs predictive analytics as a vital business analytics capability to elevate management decision-making processes. This form of analytics involves harnessing historical data, statistical algorithms, and machine learning techniques to anticipate the likelihood of future outcomes. In Amazon's case, predictive analytics is prominently utilized in areas like demand forecasting, inventory management, and predicting customer behavior. By analyzing past purchasing patterns and considering external factors, Amazon can proactively adjust its supply chain to optimize inventory levels, reduce costs, and enhance the overall customer experience. However, the efficacy of predictive analytics is contingent on the quality of input data. Inaccurate or incomplete data can lead to flawed predictions, compromising the reliability of analytics insights and potentially influencing misguided decisions. Moreover, the impact of predictive analytics can be degraded by management filters, where biases or pre-existing beliefs influence the interpretation of results, and by organizational inertia and politics, hindering the implementation of data-driven decisions due to resistance to change or internal conflicts. Despite the potential benefits of predictive analytics, addressing challenges related to information quality, management biases, and organizational dynamics is crucial to ensuring the effectiveness of management decision-making processes at Amazon.
