workers to increase the attacks. The cyber-attacks show a
need to safeguard all types of information against loss and
theft. Professional certifications in cybersecurity emerged to
curb the challenges associated with cybersecurity by giving
credentials to the individuals responsible for protecting digital
data. The paper describes professional certifications and their
benefits to organizations and individuals, including how they
can reduce cybersecurity.
Summary
The increased online learning and remote working in recent
years have exposed organizations and individuals to cyber
threats due to the extensive use of collaborative tools.
Cybersecurity is beneficial to businesses and individuals. The
certifications serve as a measure of the person's proficiency in
cybersecurity, thus allowing the business to hire a skilled
workforce to respond to cybersecurity threats. Professional
certifications lead to career advancement, continuous
learning, and recognition of individuals. The bodies
responsible for certifying the individuals should adhere to the
ISO/IEC Standard 17024 regulations. Professional certification
in cybersecurity reduces the risk in the field by mitigating
insider threats, facilitating an effective incident response, and
using proactive security measures.
Professional certification in cybersecurity
The professional cybersecurity certification shows that the
individual is knowledgeable in combating cyber threats. The
individual has to demonstrate proficiency, knowledge, and
skills in certain areas of cyber security through training
programs, education, and examination to validate
competence. The certifications ensure that the businesses
comply with the industry regulations, enhance their
reputation, and provide a tangible measure of expertise.
According to Syafrizal et al. (2020), businesses and
organizations are expected to comply with the industry-
specific frameworks showing a need to get a certified
professional in the workforce to meet the business's
requirements. Using certified professionals demonstrates the
company's commitment to maintaining security which builds
customer trust and its reputation. Integrating a certified
professional into the workforce is vital in implementing
security measures in the organization.

competitive advantage in the job market by validating the
individual's expertise in cybersecurity, thus providing better
wages, career prospects, and job security as the organizations
are likely to prioritize certified professionals. Certification
ensures that the individuals are updated with the current
information, thus encouraging continued learning in the field.
Holding a certification makes the individuals recognized by
their peers, clients, and employers for their expertise in the
field. Different organizations and bodies are responsible for
certifying the individuals, and the ISO/IEC Standard 17024
outlines the essentials for the bodies and ensures that the
bodies align with the regulations (Davri et al., 2021).
Professional certification in cybersecurity reduces the risk in
the field. First, it mitigates insider threats in businesses and
organizations by ensuring that the individuals tasked with
cyber security are trustworthy. Therefore, they can be trusted
to handle the sensitive information in the company and reduce
the likelihood of data breaches. Secondly, it ensures an
effective response due to the professional's prowess in
responding to cybersecurity threats. Therefore, they can
minimize the effect, mitigate the effects of data breaches, and
prevent future attacks, thus reducing reputational damage
and financial losses. Lastly, it leads to proactive security
measures due to the provision of up-to-date knowledge that
enables individuals to apply robust security measures.
Conclusion
Cybersecurity certifications benefit organizations and
individuals by providing assurance of the expertise of the
individuals and reducing the risks. The bodies responsible for
certifying the individuals should adhere to the ISO/IEC
Standard 17024 regulations. Employing competent individuals
in the workforce is vital in mitigating the risks and protecting
the organization.
