Problem 1: [30 Points] The High-Price Oil Company owns a pipeline network that is used to convey refined oil from its refinery to several storage locations. A portion of the network given below is used to pump oil from Node 1 (Refinery) to Node 7 (a storage facility – tank farms). Due to the varying pipe sizes, the flow capacities (given next to each arc) vary.
(a) If the firm wants to fully utilize the system capacity to supply Node 7, what is the maximum flow per hour for this pipeline system? How long will it take to satisfy a demand of 1000,000 gallons? Show details of each iteration that uses FAP with maximum flow. Verify your results using STORM. (b) If a break occurs on the line 2-3 (in both direction), use STORM to determine the maximum flow for this system? How long will it take to transmit 100,000 gallons to Node 7? (c) Based on your answer to part (a) and part (b), how critical do you think the pipeline segment 2-3 is to the operation of this network?
