1.
How did you utilize the engineering design process to develop a design for
this team design project
(2 points)
?
Utilizing the engineering process was crucial to our project’s success. First our team
identified the problem of a robot restaurant. As a team we researched automation in
restaurants and the cost of automation versus human employees. We communicated
through Discord and brainstormed ideas for a robot restaurant. Prototyping was a
significant part of our design process as we iterated our designs from an initial sketch
to full Tinkercad designs including Arduino code and electronics.
2.
What technical skills have you learned while working on the project
(2
points)
?
Some technical skills I learned were creating Arduino systems and coding them. I spent
a lot of time working on my Arduino code and learning how to utilize the different
sensors and motors that can be controlled through the Arduino. I also learned a lot
about team dynamics and communication. Since my team had members in different
time zones with different availabilities, we had to plan our meeting and learn to
collaborate with each other.
3.
What did you find most interesting about the project
(4 points)
?
The most interesting part of the project was creating the final Arduino designs on
Tinkercad. Creating a robot from scratch using the provided Arduino electronics was a
fun challenge that taught me a lot about circuit design and programming. I also really
enjoyed working with my team and I felt like my teammates were friendly and helpful
throughout the entire class.
4.
Did you run into any major roadblocks in your design and how did you
overcome these
(4 points)
?
There were a few roadblocks when designing and programming the Arduino. One issue
was the logic for the robot to move forward and backwards. Learning how the motors
can be controlled by the Arduino code took some time. Another issue was
communication. Since our group had different schedules and were in different parts of
the country, we sometimes had to reschedule team meetings or have meetings without
some of our teammates. This leads into the next roadblock which was time
management. If our team had been able to meet more often, we would have been able
to finish the project without rushing to finish it by the deadline. Overall, these
roadblocks were overcome by making the most use of our team meeting and
collaborating to make sure none of our team members were left behind.

5.
If you were to start the project all over again, what would you do differently
with respect to your design
(2 points)
? What about with your team
(2 points)
?
If I were to start all over again, I would begin by having a more detailed initial design.
Throughout the course, each of our robots had design changes and this could have
been avoided had we specified our requirements and functionalities beforehand.
Another thing I would have done differently is making mandatory team meetings every
week. Some weeks we did not meet as a team, and I believe a lot of time could have
been saved especially with the final project had we met more often. Lastly, I would have
made sure to delegate tasks to make sure no one is unclear what part of the project is
their responsibility.
6.
What non-technical skills have you acquired/practiced throughout the course
that could be helpful to you as an engineer
(4 points)
?
Throughout this course I gained many non-technical skills that could be helpful to me as
an engineer. One skill was collaboration. Learning how to work as a team and provide
helpful feedback to my classmates will be beneficial in the engineering world where new
perspectives are valued. Another skill is problem solving. Having to debug my code and
learning about Arduinos taught me how to be resourceful by reading documentation.
Lastly, I learned presentation and communication skills. Presenting a final presentation
gave me practice in sharing technical concepts in a professional way which is a
valuable skill in both engineering and entrepreneurship.
