A Problem Statement that is descriptive of the business problem. It must follow the SMART
format and connects with Objective Statement.
The high rate of failure of recently installed Time-of-flight Laser inspection Systems, which results
in a decrease in customer satisfaction and Business profit, was noted in the last 18 months as 4
different 24 issues by the customers' complaints and annual profit report. This issue needs to be
resolved to improve customer satisfaction, which will increase the business revenue, as it has a
negative impact on the business.

An Objective Statement that is descriptive and uses the format in course. It must follow
SMART criteria. Connects with Problem Statement.
Reduce the defect rate by improving the quality of the product from 13 failed final inspections to 4
failed final inspections (70% Improvement) to reduce customer complaints and system defects
within the next eight months that is June 2024, so that we can improve the business revenue.

Applying a quality tool to the data to help define the focus for this business problem.

Applying the use of “LSS Project Definition Worksheet”. All ideas supported with original
analysis and ideas for each section.

Returning time =10hrs
Therefore, total returning time = 1*10 = 10 hrs/ month
Cost of Labour: 10hrs* $60 = $600 per month
Total Procurement = Labour cost + Procurement cost = 3000+600= $3600
*Cost of Returned Galvanometer
Total incident =4 / month
Returning time =10hrs
Therefore, total returning time = 4*10 = 40 hrs/ month
Cost of Labour: 40hrs* $60 = $2400 per month
Total Procurement = Labour cost + Procurement cost= 4000 + 2400=$6400
*Cost of Other Parts
Total incident =1 / month
Returning time =5hrs
Therefore, total returning time = 1*5 = 5 hrs/ month
Cost of Labour: 5hrs* $60 = $300 per month
Total Procurement = Labour cost + Procurement cost = 750+300=$1050
