1 HIS 100 Module Three Activity Template: Revising Questions Replace the bracketed text below with your responses. Identify the topic you chose to explore: Climate Change and Environmental Issues o Chernobyl Identify a historical perspective that could be applied to your historical event. One historical perspective that could be applied to Chernobyl is the Cold War context. The Chernobyl disaster occurred during the final years of the Cold War, a time of heightened tensions between the Soviet Union and the United States. This context may have influenced the Soviet government's response to the disaster and how information about the event was communicated to the public. Revise your research question based on evidence from your primary and secondary sources. Original: o What are the long-term environmental impacts of the Chernobyl disaster on the surrounding region, and how have these impacts affected both the human population and the local ecosystem? Revised: o What measures can be taken to address the issue of iodine deficiency in soils in areas affected by the Chernobyl disaster, and how can this contribute to reducing the incidence of thyroid gland diseases in the affected population? Explain how historical perspective and evidence from sources influenced your finalized research question. To develop my research question, I thoroughly examined the available historical data and relevant sources. This helped me gain a comprehensive understanding of the issue and its context. I analyzed the evidence I collected from my primary source (government document) and secondary source (academic journal). The historical perspective helped me understand the evolution of research on iodine deficiency and thyroid gland diseases in the areas affected by the Chernobyl disaster. This gave me insights into the field's existing knowledge and research gaps. Reviewing my sources, I identified the key issues that needed to be addressed in my research question. Based on my analysis of the available evidence, I formulated a research question that addressed the gaps and limitations in the existing research. I ensured the question was focused, clear, and relevant. I also confirmed that the question was feasible and could be answered within the scope of my research. Overall, the historical perspective and evidence from sources helped me develop a well-informed and relevant research question. 1
