Essay Progress Check 1 Adam R. Choyce HIS-200 Applied History November 23, 2023 Revised Thesis: Attempting to achieve racial balance by forcing students to be bused to other areas, added to the racial separation of the area. Busing basically forced people to be integrated and no longer separated as white and black public schools. Introduction: School desegregation in 1970’s was an ordinarily known term in every household. However, Boston seemed to be immune to what was going on in the rest of the United States. In 1971, there was a change that occurred which started with 53 African American families and the NAACP, who made the decision to open a case against the Boston School Committee. The lawsuit was started in hopes of ending desegregation and it would prove to be one of the most difficult times for those in Boston. Federal Judge Arthur Garrity was the presiding judge and the case was known as Morgan v. Hennigan. Judge Arthur Garrity’s busing mandate is something that was debated for a very long-time frame, even in this day and age.
