Mainly due to that it is in reference to the wages specifically for the time directly connecting the event to the economy. Question 2: In the following scenario, which historical lens is being applied? Why do you think so? In 1908, Aram Pothier, an immigrant from Quebec, is elected governor of Rhode Island with strong support from the Québécois community. Aram Pothier being elected governor of Rhode Island In 1908, with strong support from the Québécois community, would fall under the political lens. The event being documented with high importance on the political position gained by this influential immigrant leader. Question 3: In the following scenario, which historical lens is being applied? Why do you think so? Irish immigrants and first-generation Irish-Americans come to dominate the hierarchy of the American Catholic Church in the late nineteenth century. Irish immigrants and first-generation Irish-Americans coming to dominate the hierarchy of the American Catholic Church in the late 19th century, would fall under either the cultural or the religious lens. The event being heavily leaned towards the church aspect and not the community in general pushes the event to the religious lens. Question 4: In the following scenario, which historical lens is being applied? Why do you think so? Immigration to the United States comes to be seen as a “rite of passage” for young Québécois women in the early twentieth century. Immigration to the United States coming to have been seen as a "rite of passage" for young Québécois women in the early 20th century, would fall under the social and cultural lenses. A ”rite of passage” is a social cultural event and not a true requirement, in the sense that one could still live and thrive without, but cultural social views would make one an outsider if not to participate.
Learning Block 1-3: Question 5: If you had to write a paper on the Lincoln assassination, what would you like to know more about? Create three research questions that would be appropriate for a historical analysis essay, keeping in mind the characteristics of a critical research question. The three questions can be related, or they can address different aspects of the topic. 1. How was the assassination viewed by the southern populous? (Necessary, useless, tragic …etc.) 2. With the reaction to the president's death being a wild mixture of grief, exultation, vengefulness, and fear, how did the nation initially recover? 3. Was Lincoln’s assassination a necessary catalyst for true reconstruction and reconciliation of the United States? Question 6: If you had to write a paper on Title IX, what would you like to know more about? Create three research questions that would be appropriate for a historical analysis essay, keeping in mind the characteristics of a critical research question. The three questions can be related, or they can address different aspects of the topic. 1. How did Title IX create opportunities in athletics for women? 2. What degrees/career fields did women tend to enroll in once Title IX passed? 3. Title IX did a lot for equality, what other legislations were inspired to continue the fight? Learning Block 1-4: Question 7: Write a research question that addresses the Irish immigrant experience through the lens of political history. What were the political views of the Irish immigrants, in the growing American Nation? How involved in politics were they? Question 8: Write a research question that addresses the Irish immigrant experience through the lens of economic history. How did the availability of low-cost labor, provided by Irish immigrant workers, affect the improvements of the manufacturing industries in the northeast?
