middle managers in your company – are they still necessary to control and direct projects,
or do other factors like improved information sharing make middle managers obsolete?

I have been working at Google now for about three months and I’ve been studying a lot
of how the business is run. Today I’d like to discuss a crucial part of the workforce, middle
managers what they are and do.
First off, a middle manager is the intermediate management
level of a hierarchal organization. This means that they are subordinate to the executive
management and responsible for the day to day working staff. Here at google the middle
managers give out projects to teams and the teams complete the work. Managers are still
necessary in today’s world. This was proven back in 2002 during project oxygen. Project oxygen
was a test by google to see if they could sustain themselves without managers and it proved they
absolutely couldn’t. Workers will continue to struggle if they do not have someone to go to with
questions about their projects. Some people also need to have a hand on their shoulder to get
work done efficiently and on time. Managers are what keeps the business moving they are the
glue between the average worker and the executive. As good as information sharing gets some
people need a real person to be in charge. A big trend being seen around the tech world is that
companies are beginning to fire or reposition many middle managers. This will be the best proof
whether eliminating middle management is an effective move or not. With time we will be able
to study the long/short term effects that no middle management
