HIS 100 Module Two Activity Template: Historical Research Question This activity is your last chance to choose a topic. Topic changes may be based on your research or instructor feedback. Then write a historical research question that addresses an aspect of your finalized topic. Replace the bracketed text below with your responses. Non-graded portion : List your historical research topic here: I chose the Creation of Earth Day in the Climate Change and Environmental Issues research topic list. Graded portion: Write a clear, relevant, and focused research question about your finalized topic. o To what extent are we harming our breathable air, from our pollutions like emissions from vehicles, and non-recycled waste products? Explain how another person’s beliefs, assumptions, and values may lead that person to create a different question than you. o A debated topic right now is how New York State in many counties has eliminated the single use bags from grocery stores. This was in large, an effort to reduce waste products from plastic. Think about how many places started offering paper straws instead of plastic. Alternatively, how many people carry stainless steel straws now? Similar concept, but now people are concerned on how to take their groceries home. One can purchase reusable bags, but if your stores carry the same type mine do, these bags only work for a few months before I need to purchase new ones. The concern now is that we are still creating waste that does not break down, although less waste, but we have not solved the problem. People are raising the question as to why eliminate the plastic bags so quickly if we did not have a proper replacement option available. All of these changes and during the pandemic on top of that was an interesting topic. o The amount of waste that is piling up at dump sites is affecting the air quality that we need to survive. The emissions from cars, buses, trucks, etc is getting cleaner but still affecting the quality of air that we need to consume. We have one earth, and everything that we do can make an impact on the life that we live, and the earth that we leave to the next generations. While many people are on board with making better options for us, they want it to be a solid option of removing the waste, or eliminating it, not just slowing it down.
