CJ100 UNIT 1 REFLECTION JOURNAL
My Reflection Journal -What I learn in Unit 1 To Prepare for the future of completing my degree in criminal justice, this unit 1 course is essential to guiding students like myself to understanding the career that I am pursuing. Starting with the
textbook regarding the Careers in Criminal Justice and Related Fields. Within the first chapter, I was able to conclude the reason to obtain the degree instead of listening to social talk informing you that you
do not have to acquire a higher education. This chapter mentions the self-esteem that is a necessity to many successful law employees, For example, like stated we thrive when there is meaningful reasoning when it comes to our employment ( (Mijares, 2018), p.4). This relates to me on many levels regarding another fact that I have obtain while reviewing content. Women in the law enforcement field have not been equal opportunities during the past, regarding chapter 16 women used to be hired for simply female
inmate, juvenile or non-active roles. Another requirement that was unfair for women was that we were required to obtain a degree while the males just needed to pass the physical test and have a high school diploma. ( (Mijares, 2018), p.153). This gave me more thrive and privilege to be in my generation in terms that I am a woman and in the law career, we no longer have to endure being treated without equality. I know that in the future I can contribute to serving my citizens in any field as much as a male could, which will give me with motivation to succeed. I know that many students forget time management and can lose their motivation over time. I noticed reading the interesting article about a particular student “Jet” who was portrayed as a very inattentive and unmotivated student; however, I was actually that student at the age of 21 just getting out
of high school Therefore, I also understand Jet. What I am most impressed about the most was this was a

very good personalized article regarding the frustration that an instructor has to endure with a student who chooses to fail. At one point, the instructor even stated that he questioned his career due to others’ failure (Pfefferle 2010). I find it confirming that instructors are as invested in your success as much as you can invest, they are not there to force you into motivation. However, I did notice that the way to succeed in any course is to correctly set a time for your goals, assignments, and reasoning to become a successful student for an instructor to be proud of. I find this article intriguing “Preparing for the future: Criminal justice in 2040” regarding the fact
that law careers and crimes will increase as technology advances instead of decrease. Also, that we will be required to have degree in the future for law career instead of just basic education (Ritter 2016). This comforted me that I am making the right decision to proceed with my bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and my future will hold many opportunities even as a minority. I take this time to give myself a pat in the back and will thrive to be not a Jet within the (Pfefferle 2010) Article.
