Having a fundamental comprehension of the scope of practice pertaining to
different healthcare professions is of utmost importance for healthcare
providers. The concept of "scope of practice" pertains to the authorized
actions that individuals in the healthcare field are allowed to undertake.
Legal statutes, licensing bodies, and regulatory frameworks—all of which
differ between states—are responsible for establishing these actions (AMA,
2022). It is crucial to comprehend the extent of professional responsibilities
within various healthcare disciplines in order to guarantee the provision of
secure, legal, and efficient healthcare services to patients, as well as to
establish the distinct roles of diverse healthcare practitioners (AMA, 2022).
Furthermore, the utilization of telehealth services aids healthcare providers
in delineating the boundaries of their own professional scope and discerning
the appropriate instances in which to refer patients to alternative healthcare
practitioners possessing distinct areas of specialization (AMA, 2022).
The attainment of desired outcomes within diverse healthcare professions
necessitates the implementation of effective communication strategies.
According to Nayana de Sousa Mata et al. (2021), the implementation of
communication skills training can serve as a viable approach to enhance the
provision of care by healthcare professionals and elevate the overall quality
of healthcare services. According to OnPage (2023), it is imperative for
healthcare professionals to engage in effective communication practices
characterized by clarity, timeliness, and discretion. This is crucial in order to
facilitate precise diagnoses, ensure the appropriate administration of
treatments, and promote patients' comprehension of their health status and
requirements. The establishment of effective communication among
healthcare professionals has the potential to facilitate the development of
teamwork, enhance confidence in decision-making processes, and cultivate
positive working relationships. In order to facilitate effective communication,
it is imperative for healthcare professionals to engage in active listening,
assume accountability for instances of miscommunication, engage in truthful
discourse, offer comprehensive information, and maintain objectivity. In
addition, it is imperative to give precedence to culturally competent care,
which encompasses the utilization of interpreters as a means to overcome
communication barriers between patients and healthcare professionals
(Tulane University, 2022).
