A study from 2015 – 2018 :

current alcohol use.

About 1 in 22 (4.5%) pregnant women report
binge drinking.
•
Alcohol use is highest among women who are in
the first trimester of pregnancy, with about 1 in
5 (19.6%) reporting current alcohol use and 1 in
10 (10.5%) reporting binge drinking (Centers for
disease control and Prevention, 2022)
Scope of the Problem
Consuming alcoholic beverages during pregnancy
poses an increased risk to fetal development. “Fetal
alcohol spectrum disorders (
FASD) are
considered the most common
nonhereditary cause of mental
retardation (Alcohol Policy Information
System, 2022)”.
