Case Study 1
Over the years there have been many changes in healthcare. From medications to
procedures, every year healthcare has new developments to provide better care for patients. As
healthcare providers it is important to be as efficient as possible during patients' visits. One way
that services can be delivered in a more efficient manner is by providing Internet access to
clinicians at the point of care.
Uses of Internet Access
Providing internet access to clinicians at the point of care has many benefits to both the
patients and the healthcare team. Having internet access would allow for files to be digitalized.
Organization and easy access are incredibly important in healthcare facilities, with digitalized
files those goals could be achieved. Internet access would allow healthcare providers to
educate their patients with the most up to date information. There are many security and access
rules that are in place to protect patients' information. In order to access files, both patients and
healthcare providers would need to provide a password.
Potential Problems with Internet Access
With technology there is always a chance a problem will arise. Although there are
measures in place to protect patients' files there is a possibility that there could be a data
breach. If a data breach did occur, patients' files would no longer be private and would be
accessible to those who breached the system. While caring for patients it’s possible the internet
might crash, restricting access to patients' files. Most healthcare systems are set up so that
patients may chat with their doctors online and access their medical files at home. That system
is beneficial to many patients, although some patients may not have access to the internet or
may not know how to operate the system. Overall, internet access would allow healthcare
providers to be more efficient when caring for patients.
Conclusion
3
Internet access would be a great asset to healthcare providers. Having digitalized files,
providing better patient care, and having stronger security measures is beneficial for both
providers and patients. Internet access would be a useful extension of healthcare.
