Electronic health records are defined as a digital version of a patient’s medical chart.
This includes medications taken, allergies, past procedures, family medical history, and more.
EHRs are real-time records that share information securely. Electronic health records can be
used by community-based providers, and streamline communication among providers.
Reflection
The webinar was very informative given by professionals who are experts in their area. I
appreciate how the powerpoint was well laid out and not overwhelming. The powerpoint had key
points and then the speaker talked about the key points more in depth. The powerpoint started
with basic information such as the definition of electronic health records. It’s a good idea to start
presentations out with the definitions of the topic so they can have a refreshment of the
information and can build on that knowledge throughout the presentation. The presentation
included graphics which is a great resource for visual learners, instead of reading bullet points
off of a screen. The speaker included information from the field which is helpful for those
watching the presentation to learn how to apply this information to their job. One example of this
is when the speaker talked about how patient data can be inserted into the EHR by the patient's
smart watch, such as the patient's daily steps, activity, sleep, blood pressure, and more. Overall
I think the presentation was professional, informative, and presented in a manner that was easy
to understand.
EHR Supporting High Cholesterol
Electronic health records can support patients who have high cholesterol by keeping
them informed on their diet, medications, history of their high cholesterol, and contacting their
healthcare provider. Patients that have high cholesterol can treat it with their diet and
medications such as Atorvastatin. The patient can track their cholesterol over time through the
electronic health record. Patients can communicate with their healthcare providers with their
changes of symptoms and changes in their diet through the electronic health record as well.
