The assessment helps teachers make instructional decisions, by revealing insights into the effectiveness of one or more of the following: teaching methods, classroom environmental features, selected materials, grouping strategies, learning of the content. The assessment helps teachers find out what students know and can do – not what students cannot do – so that appropriate planning can be prepared that extends the students’ knowledge. The holistic context for learning is considered and assessed. This implies that all factors having an impact on teaching and learning are considered, including the following: students’ affective responses toward the subject area, classroom environment, parental and cultural attitudes toward schooling, students’ background knowledge, experiences and physiological needs. learning activity that requires students to perform real-world application tasks. The assessment is longitudinal – ongoing and takes place over time with multiple samples of students’ work taken from a variety of situations.
