Space and Furnishing: Strength (4.14)
There are various play-based centers in the classroom. There was no visible damage
within the room. There is a bathroom in the classroom and the teachers can control the
temperature in the classroom via A/C. All furniture is child-size, there is a sand and water table
present, as well as an art easel. There is a kitchen in dramatic play alongside all relevant centers
having adequate materials. Staff adequately supervise centers. Plenty of displays of art is
displayed in the classroom, along with numbers and the alphabet. There is an indoor gym in
case of inclement weather, and children use the outdoor playground twice a day for 35 minutes
each time. Outdoor equipment includes steps with slides, a sandbox covered with shade, balls,
push trucks, blocks on a concrete patio, and tricycles with a helmet. On the other hand, some of
the centers in the classroom were interrupted by others, and you have to walk through some
quiet areas to enter loud active areas. There wasn’t a cozy area observed, and there were 2
small rips in the couch in the classroom. The writing center only has one desk and chair.
Children have to walk through other classrooms to access the playground, yet no advanced skill
equipment is observed outdoors. There is a minor hazard in the outdoor playground because
there isn’t enough mulch present at the exit of the slide.
The class can improve by adding curtains or blinds to regulate light in the room. As well
as allowing centers to be spaced out and not conflict with one another. There also should be a
cozy area implanted into the classroom to help demonstrate comfort and security. The teachers
3
should involve themselves in free play more, implanting observation play. The outdoor area
should include more educational activities implemented into outdoor activity.
Personal Care Routine: Needs Improvement (2)
The food and packing are missing one or more of the required components and were
not supplemented by the program, like grains, dairy, etc. There is no flexibility, snack was
offered as a group and ended before everyone could finish. No late breakfast was offered to
children. There were lapses in handwashing time, teachers weren’t supervising all children and
the handwashing didn’t last the required 20 seconds for proper handwashing. Children were not
guided if they needed help with procedures, and they were no pictures or guides to remind
children of washing their hands. The staff was not being good role models to the children, they
were eating junk food, drinking soda, and didn’t wash their hands after disposing of trash. There
were more than two safety hazards outside and inside. There were uncovered outlets within the
classroom, a bleach bottle in the bathroom cabinet, hand sanitizer in reach of children, mulch
that wasn’t deep by the slide exit, and exposed tree roots in the grass.
The class can improve by having teachers monitor children more while washing their
hands and setting better examples. Teachers should demonstrate health precautions to children
to set higher expectations. The children should also be able to finish their full snack and be
offered a later breakfast in case some children missed it or weren’t hungry at breakfast time.
Staff should monitor children’s food consumption more, and make sure they are given all
necessary nutrition portions. There should be mulch covered deeper by the slide, along with
pulling exposed tree roots out of grass or covering it.

Language and Literacy: Strength (5)
The teachers used great vocabulary and verbal explanations with the children. They
adequately describe objects and vary words to help children better understand. The staff also
implements letters of the week for children to consistently work on the alphabet. The staff
makes sure to ask children questions about their weekends, family, and how they are feeling.
Teachers make sure to demonstrate being polite and respectful and give children key phrases to
demonstrate that such as “please” and “thank you”.
There was a word wall present and
adequately used by pointing and repetitions. There was not a good variety of books,
ABC’s/123’s books were the focus.
Most printed words were not paired with photos throughout
the room. For the number of children enrolled there should have been 31 books but only 26
were counted.
To improve the quality of the classroom teachers can add a few more books. They can
also add different topics of books to provide children with variety and more options. Although
there are print words throughout the class, there should be pictures added with them. Doing so
allows children to pair sight words with objects and allows them to put toys back in the right
place.
Learning Activities: Needs Improvement (3.60)
In the classroom, there was no theme related to art observed, and there was no paint
observed in the classroom. There was a dictation of family pictures posted on the walls.
Unfortunately, there was no music, singing, or dancing observed, which means there wasn’t any
5
music and movement implemented in their daily routine. The traffic path to the writing center
goes through the blocks which causes some disruptions. The space is not large enough to fit the
number of centers present in the classroom. There was no staff interaction observed between
children, and there were not two themes present for one hour. There isn’t enough storage for
materials in the classroom. Although there was a plant in the classroom It was not discussed, no
science or nature, in general, was observed either. Activities in class were not along with the
space theme they have set. The teacher implemented a good amount of mathematical exercise
in toys but didn’t connect print numbers and shapes with use in the environment. In addition,
there weren’t many complex tasks for older children observed. The staff failed to relate the
print number of objects or pictures. Also, teachers did not show children how to use material
within print numbers or related print numbers to several fingers.
To improve classroom quality the staff should consider implementing mathematics into
the daily curriculum more. They should start by teaching more about print numbers compared
with other ways of counting. They should also allow children to participate in music and
movement since it’s needed to meet quality standards. Children should be able to explore
instruments, sing, dance, and show their rhythmic abilities. The classroom should always have a
theme that changes, and activities should be based around the theme at all times.
Interaction: Strength (6.2)
The safe made sure they circulated the playground and supervised the children while
also talking to them. Free play was available for 3 hours for children and they were able to
choose and circulate centers to engage with other children. Interaction is positive between
6
children and staff; staff shows pure enjoyment in playing with children. Only a few conflicts
were observed, and the teachers supported the children to work through their problems. The
staff made sure to model good interaction, showing respect and politeness. There were
appropriate expectations and standards met in the classroom and the staff responded fairly and
positively. On the other hand, the staff did not prevent unsafe situations outdoors.
Staff should pay more attention to children’s behavior outdoor and promote safer
decision-making on the children’s behalf. Other than that, the interaction in the classroom was
very good.
Program Structure: Strength (5)
A timer was used for transitions, and activities alongside centers are planned. Transitions
are well supervised and engaging. Transitions are not individualized which cuts some meals and
activities short for those who may have not been done. Children can develop deep play and
complete projects they are engaged in. The classroom has great time management skills from
utilizing the timer. Circle time consists of appropriate topics and domains. The children are free
to leave during circle time and the staff doesn’t provide support for children during circle time if
they are having difficulties. Some children aren’t even engaged in the calendar.
To make the classroom more efficient they should individualize transitions to give
everyone a chance to finish activities and or food. Staff should also require children to
participate in circle time and assist when needed to help children better grasp necessary
concepts like shapes, colors, numbers, weather, calendar, and the alphabet.
