HLTH 210 – Foundations of Health Science Chapt. 07 – Health Education Settings (5 + 5 = 10 points) Directions: Health Educators practice in multiple settings. Similar to other professions, the training in our discipline usually starts future professionals together. And then, as we become more specialized, we figure out in what setting we would like to practice. Check D2L for the due date of both Part One and Two of this assignment. PART ONE Health Education Setting Bullet at least three general responsibilities of someone working in this setting Two advantages to working in this setting Two disadvantages to working in this setting Two specific examples of LOCAL (near where you live or work) organizations or agencies in this setting School Health Safe and nurturing learning environment Using of time personnel and resources Active leadership Publicity to people You help children learn better Physical Demands Difficult patients Right across from my workplace there is a place like this that works with kids Another one is 5 minutes down the road from where I live, and I been there once or twice Public or Community Health Education/ Promotion Caring for every patient that comes in Helping the community Promote health ideas to families You get publicity in your community Make a lasting impression on society Say goodbye to free time Difficult conditions to work in At my school on a Saturday there was a public health checkup We have had speakers come into my high school and talk about disease and we can prevent them from
happening to us Health Education/ Promotion in healthcare Teach patients ways to keep themselves healthy Create healthy environments for others Promoting healthy habits, it keeps your body free of diseases You are given healthcare You learn how to treat yourself and keep a clean environment Constant stress with patients Coworkers that are difficult to handle There is an agency called MedExpress across from my exs house There’s a place in a plaza near me called Quest which gives tips and does test for other things Setting Responsibilities of someone working in this setting Advantages to working in this setting Disadvantages to working in this setting Three specific examples of LOCAL (near where you live or work) organizations or agencies in this setting Health Education/ Promotion in Colleges and Universities Create a healthy campus for students and staf Promote safe health habits on campus Give students a wellness checkup Dealing with diferent patients and see diferent results Your message is spread to more people at one time The constant wave of patients Stress when students don’t comply with you I went down to one of my friends’ colleges and the red cross was doing checkups on students In one of my college visits before coming here there was a Checkup center for everyone
International Opportunities Take care of others outside of the area Promote health care around the world Provide care and do checkups on others who are not fortunate Get to see healthcare around the world See how doctors treat patients in other places You are exposed to more disease and virus You may work with tools that could be foreign to you There was a day when I went on my break and there was an international tent using medicines from around the world Back in my old school there was an organization demonstrating how diferent areas use tools and medics for diferent things Nontraditional Health Education/ Promotion Positions Taking care of others in their own way Promote safety and how their method works to better yourself Treat your environment healthy and clean using your own methods You make your own ways of medicine You can be comfortable in that environment because it’s your own way All your healthcare could not work, and it could make things worse Your equipment could be bad and cause injuries if there is not one already One of my friends at my school wanted to show what he had learned and wanted to try his method at curing somebody At my work there was a person who fell ill and was vomiting so a person from the crowd tried a technique his mom used, and it stopped it PART TWO - Select the one setting in which you think you would most like to work. In two typed paragraphs (double-spaced), thoroughly explain the following: a. Why do you think you would prefer that setting to the other health education settings?

b. And what do you think you should do in the next x-number of years to graduation to make sure you land a job in that setting? If I had the choice, I would choose the international one as there is cultures that use medicines we don’t know about. International would be good because you would step outside a comfort zone and meet diferent patients compared to other ones. With colleges and university there would more be the same people coming for checkups and wanting the usual expecting to see you. Also compared the other ones there are ways in which international can help as making your methods better by knowing multiple ways to treat it. But in a nontraditional there’s always a risk in which you could end up injuring a patient or make it even worse than it already is. Public health is even worse which how it’s for everyone and there could be some false ones that are just a waste of time to you. In the next 5 years I should start studying medicine which then I can get a basic understanding which make it easier to know what to give. Also, I would want to learn cultures to know what they do to treat patients and compare it to how we treat them and create a basic understanding of how it’s done. After that I would try and work in diferent areas which would give more knowledge and know tech and tools others use. Meet with new patients by traveling and see how culture efects people’s perspective on health. Then there would be to promote how this efects people and become a known as a great doctor.
