Shimeka Dade February 19, 2023 1. A new janitor has just been hired at your preschool. She has approached the director and stated that she believes that the indoor sensory center should be removed since she is afraid that she will have to clean up a lot of messes and the children have the opportunity to play with sand outside. The director has asked you to respond to the following two questions. I would address the new janitor that all the sensory centers will be clean by the students with your assistance and I will make sure that I double clean the area also. 2. What is the value of an indoor sensory center? The value of an indoor sensory center helps build nerve connections in their brain's pathways, which can help your child complete complex tasks. When children engages in sensory play, they're helping their brain develop and learn from certain aspects of their environment 3. What are steps you will take to try to limit the mess in this area? The steps that I will take to try to limit the mess in this area are that I would show the students how to clean the area and the next time they make a mess in the area the students will clean the mess up. 4. List at least five behaviors (such as which hand the child typically uses) you might observe and document in the manipulative center. 1. Not listening to the teacher when it’s time to clean up. 2. Not sharing with their classmates 3. Fighting over the toys 5. Teresa, a three-year-old, is struggling to put a 9-piece puzzle of a person together. She wants you to help. Name at least three techniques for helping Teresa to successfully finish the puzzle. 1. I could put numbers on the puzzle where she could match the numbers. 2. I would encourage Teresa to try to put the puzzle together by herself. 3. When Teresa puts a correct piece, I will congratulate her and tell her let’s try again .
Dade 2 6. Sam has given the three-year-old children in the classroom shapes to cut out. However, none of the children are successful at cutting the shapes. Explain to Sam the progression of cutting skills. I would explain to Sam that shapes are difficult for three-year-olds to cut. You should start off small things like cutting paper to where you could observe the children’s cutting skills. Then I would move on to cutting lines if they still have difficulties cutting the lines I would use play doh to help them to be use to use scissors to cut the play doh.
