Clinical Field Experience C: Evaluation of a Child Care Facility LaRonda Kennedy Grand Canyon University: ECE-530 June 7, 2023
Clinical Field Experience C: Evaluation of a Child Care Facility I had the pressure to observe Mrs. Carter’s Pre-K Class at Lonnie B. Nelson Elementary School. I was able to observe when the students first come into school and their routine that they do every morning. When the students arrive to school which is at 7:10 am the ones who want breakfast will go to the cafeteria to eat their breakfast and the ones who do not want breakfast will go sit in townhall with the other students until 7:30am when their teachers come get them and walk them to class. For the students that were eating in the cafeteria they were practicing safe eating habits by eating slow, once they were done, they would clean their area and throw their trash away and then go join their class in townhall. If anyone came in after breakfast was served students will receive a brown paper bag and be allowed to go to their classroom and eat their breakfast, there. The breakfast that the kids who ate in the cafeteria was grits with sausage and some fruit. They would either get milk or juice. The ones who got a bag breakfast had a pop tart with fruit and a drink. Once Mrs. Carter took her kids to the classroom, she gave them some instructions on what to do and what she expected of them. So, the kids came in and took their folders out of their backpack and put them in the folder bin. Then they would go to the carpet so she can take attendance and do the lunch count for the say. Right before the kids go to lunch Mrs. Carter takes about 20 minutes allowing the students to go to the bathroom to use or wash their hands. For today their lunch choice was Chicken Nuggets or Turkey and Cheese Sandwich the lunch also comes with a fruit and milk. The accommodation is for children who have allergies and Mrs. Carter had two kids that was lactose intolerant. So, they really wanted a sandwich, so they had the option to get it without the cheese and instead of milk they got juice. If it was a cultural
difference most of those kids, their parents will packet their lunch and it’s the same for anyone with special needs.
