Reflection Posts Week One Reflection on Learning
I have been working as a Registered Nurse since 2018 and had worked within the hospital walls for at least 2 years prior. This has allowed me to see the implementation of evidence based practice in multiple areas. A great example of this recently includes the use of extended administration of Zosyn. At the bottom of this article, I will leave a link if anyone is interested in the perks of 4 hours administration. A few factors that can influence that use of evidence based practice are costs, staffing, and education. The promotion of better patient outcomes should be a supporting factor with implementing new evidence based practice. As a NP I have a reasonability to ensure I am providing the best patient care possible. That includes finding the newest EBP possible and implementing to the highest of my ability.
Week Two Reflection on Learning
This week turned out to be more difficult than I thought it would be. I choose to use the same topic that I had used for past classes, assuming it would be easiest. Sadly, I was mistaken. I
had the most difficult time focusing on one intervention to compare to another. Formatting the question itself was also exceedingly difficult. I feel that after working hard to understand PICOT questions I will be able to develop a better focus on needed research in future practice Instead of researching a broad topic, I will understand how to figure out what is most important to understand and go from there. I really appreciate everyone’s posts in the café this week. I was able to gain some insight from others PICOT questions. See you all next week!
Week Three Reflection on Learning

I am struggling a little with this entire research class. I do not feel that these types of classes are my strong point. Therefore, it was not as easy as I would have preferred. I ended up setting for a dual (qualitative and quantitative) article. I had a lot of difficulty with determining between the two. End the end I found it easier to think about quantitative as having to do with numbers while qualitative with subjective data. I feel that for my PICOT questions I should use a
collaboration of both styles of research. I do not feel that I could replicate the specific study that I found but something very similar. I hope to see everyone next week and I want to thank everyone for all the helpful advice!
Week Four Reflection on Learning
This week’s article was a lot easier to find than last weeks. I truly believe that this is due
to the area of interest I chose. The hesitance of vaccinations from parents tends to be due to subjective reasonings. Subjective data is harder to understand when in a quantitative review, or at
least that’s how I feel about it. I did not have any difficulty when deciding if the study was qualitative because the article title included its type. Due to it its lack of population in the study I do feel that the study could be replicated. Overall, I feel that qualitative or mixed method study design should be used for my PICOT question research.
Week Five Reflection on Learning
This week has been a rough week for me, I hope that the rest of the class has a better time
with week 5. I had a difficult time with finding research for my selected area of interest as it was to broad in both population and intervention. Therefore, I decided to change my PICOT question slightly. Once I was able to do this evidence was easier to find. Specifically qualitative reviews. Regarding the quality of the evidence, I found that the majority of the assignments held quality

information. For the evidence side I do feel that there are gaps, which I used a few article slots to
understand. The gaps include barriers to communication with patient (in my case parents). I would like to see interventions towards providers understanding and overcoming these barriers regarding this specific vaccination. In the end the literature does support the recommended practice change. Provider communication/recommendation increases the HPV vaccination rates in adolescents due to lessened parental hesitance.
Week Six Reflection on Learning
The CITI module held a lot of useful information and when I say a lot, I mean A LOT. It has been a few years since I was finishing my bachelor’s degree and taking a research class. Due to this, I feel that nothing really surprised me. I simply felt that it was a surprising amount to take
in. I feel that both CITI and ANA refer to the patient or participates as most important. They both
sustain our human rights and our dignity. We provide empathetic healthcare, and we use empathy in research. This week’s content can and should be applied to what is currently going on in the world and nursing practice. I am hesitant to include this in my post, but I feel like "why not." The COVID-19 vaccination that is being mandated among practices and schools is still in an experimental phase. I feel personally that is not allowing individuals to make their own medical choices within a moment of research. This may be an unpopular opinion, or it may not. Hopefully we, as a nation, can stand together and fight as we have been. Thank you for the class and this week’s topic.
Week Seven Reflection on Learning
The type of dissemination that stands out to me most is the poster. I have always felt that after working hard to review and obtain knowledge it is easier for me to present a breakdown of

the information in a post form. I used this method for my bachelor’s degree research project that reviewed animal assisted therapy in nursing homes. In my opinion it is easier to understand this style of information without having to read a lengthily report. In a professional setting I would use print outs of the information or even pamphlets that summarize the PowerPoint. Once again, I feel that visual aids strongly increase your chances of being heard when it comes to healthcare practice promotion. I could easily enter family practice settings and present my information and recommendation and receive results. Week Eight Reflection on Learning
My personal plant to promote lifelong personal and professional growth by using evidence-based practice is honestly just ask questions. I currently have a habit of asking questions relating to practice that I don’t know anything about. For instance, when I come across a new drug, I typically look it up and then give it. This attitude towards everything in practice will allow me opportunities to strengthen practice with research. Due to the current pandemic, I do not plan on distributing the information that I learned. I will use the recommendation that I offered throughout my practice as an entirety. By that I mean, I will make sure to provide recommendations on anything regarding an increased healthcare outcome. Thank you, Professor Roof, for all your help and the class opportunity. I had a rough time for a while but made it through.
