WEEK 3
Self-monitoring/ reporting out: How do DiNovi and Gavoni (2020) define "self-monitoring?" Explain how self-monitoring serves as a positive and negative reinforcer. Provide an example of how you are self-monitoring and reporting out your SAFMEDS results each week.
Behavioral self-monitoring and reporting progress have been part of a packaged intervention that includes variables like goal setting and feedback as a practical approach to accelerate performance and achieve related outcomes in organizations (Olson & Winchester, 2008) (DiNovi & Gavoni, 2021 p.93). Since the 70’s it has become a term used to describe one’s
willingness to discriminate amongst social cues and respond accordingly under various conditions. Self-monitoring has been used to improve several interactions between staff and patients in institutions, athletic, academic, teacher, safety performances etc. You must keep in mind that in order for self-monitoring to work the individual must report their data to somebody else to keep them accountable. This allows them to change and modify their behavior to reach their target goals. It will also help them develop awareness of what's difficult for them.
According to DiVoni & Gavoni self-monitoring can function as positive or negative reinforcing consequence, depending on how an individual rates him/herself. When the individual
rates themselves high, then they are most likely to engage in the same behaviors that gave them that high score serving as a positive reinforcer. When their scores are on the lower side it will serve as a negative reinforcer because their efforts will increase to get that higher score.
For my self-monitoring for SAFMEDS, I make sure I reach my weekly goals i set for myself at the beginning of each week. My intervention for me to keep myself accountable are:
Study my decks for 5-10 minutes depending on the week and the deck
Keeping my SAFMEDS during the week
Completing the error cards on study mode when i need a little push
After implementing the interventions, I will transfer my acquisition best timing over to Precision X. After the week is over, I will prepare a report of the data I collected throughout the week and compare it with my daily performances. By me doing that I will see what scores I obtained, and I
will continue to do the same things over to obtain those same scores or better.
