Roles of Advanced Practioners: Unit 1 Discussion 1
Hello, my name is Jana. I have been in healthcare for 37 years and a registered nurse for 12 years. My goal was to be a FNP by the age of 55 but I will miss that goal by two years. Over
the last 37 years, I have worked with nurse practitioners with different focuses. I chose FNP because of the different opportunities it entails. The most influential reason for becoming an FNP is the advanced care that is given by nurse practitioners. I feel my years of working at the bedside as a nurse will give me the ability to understand my patients differently. I plan on opening my own clinic in five years. I want to create a program to help indigent
individuals. My small community has a clinic for Native Americans only. The nearest healthcare
facility is 20 miles away. If the indigent and elderly do not have transportation, a local facility could save their life. There is a lot of planning but with determination, it can be accomplished. This is where I see myself working in the role of a Nurse Practitioner.
