Explain how the required components of an IEP are interconnected and critically
important for developing high-quality educational programming.
The required components of an IEP are interconnected because you need to understand one
portion to write another and so on. In order to write measurable annual goals you need to start with
identifying the functional and academic needs written in the present levels. You then need to
identify the relevant state standards for the student’s grade and the skills necessary to get to the
grade-level expectations. The IEP team will then need to discuss what the student should be able to
do to achieve during the next 12 months. Then the case manager will develop an individualized,
ambitious but attainable goal. All parts work together to help the student make progress.
