Emerging adulthood is seen as a positive phase when considering life course health development.
In modern societies, young people have more opportunities to explore and take on more educational and social responsibilities but face more significant challenges. However, schools, families, and health and social services provide less support and structure, leaving emerging adults to depend more on their own resources in a less structured environment (Wood et al., 2017).
Discuss the marriage rituals of your own culture.
A variety of factors, such as cultural background, religious beliefs, and individual choices, can influence the process of getting married in the United States. Despite the diversity of these influences, there are several common wedding customs that Americans tend to follow. I will provide a detailed analysis of these marriage rituals in the United States. Wedding vows are a popular tradition in America. The couple publicly expresses their devotion to each other and their intention to spend their lives together. Afterward, they usually exchange rings to symbolize their love and commitment. At the end of the celebration, it is customary for the couple to cut the wedding cake together and share a piece. Typically, the best man or maid of honor gives a toast. Weddings in America have a rich tapestry of customs and traditions. An age-
old tradition still popular today is that the bride wears a stunning white dress while the groom dons a dapper tuxedo or fashionable suit. A customary aspect of the bridal ensemble is the bouquet, which the bride often carries down the aisle. Once the ceremony is complete and the reception begins, it is customary for the bride to throw her bouquet to her unmarried female friends. This is a fun and lighthearted tradition that many people look forward to at weddings.
According to Istomina (2023), American weddings have many traditions. One is that the bride usually wears a white or ivory gown to represent purity. She may also wear a white veil to symbolize virginity. It is bad luck for the groom to see the bride's dress before the wedding. So, it
is common for the bride to carry or wear something old, new, borrowed, and blue for good luck.
In American culture, it is customary to have pre-wedding celebrations for both the bride and groom separately. The bride's party is a bachelorette party, while the groom's is called a bachelor party. These celebrations are usually held a few weeks before the wedding day and involve fun activities and bonding among the soon-to-be-wed individuals and their closest friends. On the wedding day, the bride traditionally enters the ceremony after her bridesmaids. This symbolizes the importance of her closest female companions in her life. This is a beautiful moment in the wedding ceremony, creating a lovely visual for everyone in attendance. When it comes to American weddings, According to Istomina (2023), they tend to allocate more time for dancing, which results in shorter mealtimes. This ensures the guests have more time to enjoy the music and dance the night away. Dancing is a significant part of the wedding celebration as it brings people together and creates a joyful atmosphere.
Are there similarities? The marriage customs in the United States and the Southwest Moluccas Community share similarities. In both cultures, it is important for spouses to formally declare their love and commitment to each other. Marriage is considered a major milestone in life, symbolizing the transition from young adulthood to adulthood. Religion plays a crucial role in the marriage ceremonies of both cultures, and they involve extensive celebrations with family members, friends, and members of the community.
Are there differences? The Southwest Moluccas Community is known for its intricate and elaborate marriage ceremonies that extend over several days. These celebrations are characterized by rich cultural traditions and customs meticulously observed by the community. In contrast, American weddings
are shorter and more focused on gathering with close family and friends to celebrate the couple's union. Despite the differences in duration and focus, both ceremonies hold great significance and
are cherished by those who participate.
How does, or do you expect, this ritual to influence the experience of adulthood (including both direct and indirect health outcomes associated with this experience)?
In terms of how marriage rituals influence the experience of adulthood and the health outcomes associated with this experience, Through my recent reading assignment, I understand the significant influence that marriage rituals can have on one's adulthood experience and the associated health outcomes. Married individuals may enjoy better mental health outcomes than those who remain unmarried. This positive correlation can be attributed to several factors, including that married couples are less likely to engage in risky behavior. Additionally, economic
stability, often a natural byproduct of marriage, can contribute to better health outcomes. Overall,
the ritual provides valuable insights into marriage's role in shaping a person's health and well-
being, underscoring the importance of healthy relationships in promoting positive health outcomes. According to Istomina (2023), Research has unequivocally demonstrated that nurturing a solid social circle comprised of loved ones can significantly enhance one's mental health. Consequently, participating in weddings involving esteemed individuals can improve health outcomes.
