1. What was one topic you found most surprising/interesting about the US Healthcare System? Clearly describe the topic in 2-3 sentences. I found health care delivery, specifically in Hospital, Long term care, and Mental Health (mental health parity). I found the similarities and differences between providing inpatient, outpatient and long term care very interesting. I also found the evolution of mental health care very intriguing, along with the challenges mental health parity still faces today in the healthcare system. 2. Describe why the topic is important. These topics are very important for several reasons. It’s important to understand the differences between these health care deliveries as this leads to more efficient healthcare results. It is also important to understand mental health parity, as it has evolved a lot recently and is a very important part of healthcare, considering the mind is included in the body! 3. What would you have liked to learn more about in the course? I would have liked to learn more about technology in healthcare in this course. In my lifetime, technology has improved leaps and bounds, and I think touching on that in this course would be useful as technological advances in hospitals and medical facilities are here to stay. I also think viewing more case studies would have been interesting in order to gain more “real-
life” knowledge. 4. If you could change one thing about this course, what would it be? This information is
helpful to me as I continue to improve the class each semester. I found this course to be
very informative and useful, especially for the career path I would like to pursue. I really liked the involvement of group projects into the course. I’ve taken several online courses
over my college years and this is the first one that has incorporated group work into the class. I found this very useful, as it kept me active in the course and kept me involved in
my coursework (as I did not want to disappoint my group members by not being informed). So that being said, I guess it’s not something I would change about the course, but it is something I found to be a helpful tool and hope you keep doing for your courses to come. At times, I did find the instructions in the group projects to be a little bit confusing and vague. But that totally might be something that I was doing wrong, if other students did not feel this way. 5. How do you anticipate this class being useful for your career? I think that I will use every aspect of this course in my career. Although this major is not “essential” to nursing or PA school entry, I think that this course will make me a more well-rounded health care professional. I think that having a deeper understanding of how the healthcare system is made up, what the organizational structure of our modern health care system is like, and why we do what we do will help me a lot with my career.
