Experiences to support physical fitness and healthy eating
Due: End of Week 4
What’s the purpose?
As an early childhood educator and significant role model, you’re in a prime position to promote and
engage young children in physical health and well-being practices that will set them up for life. In fact, it’s a requirement of your role and forms part of the National Quality Framework and Standards. In this task you will begin to develop your repertoire for engaging children in healthy living.
At a glance
You are going to create two (2)
learning experiences for children that will engage them in learning about healthy living and looking after their bodies. You will need to pre-read the resources provided to have sufficient knowledge to develop well-rounded, educational experiences that the children will
remember. Ultimately, you want to embed fun, capture the curiosity of the children doing the activity and focus on the most important things you feel they need to know to be healthy. If you inspire them enough, they’ll teach their family too.
What you need to do
1.
Read through the resources provided in essential resources to have sufficient knowledge to create well informed learning experiences.
2.
Create two (2)
learning experiences for 2 to 3-year-olds, completing each section of the proformas provided.

Full Name: Student ID: Part A – Learning experience one Learning Experience One – Move your body
The purpose: The purpose of this learning experience is to create an engaging and fun activity that gives children an opportunity to move their bodies and to understand the benefits of doing so in an age-
appropriate way.
Question 1:
What are your three (3) topic points? i.e. What you will educate the children on, i.e., three (3) things to remember about healthy, physical activity and how their bodies work?
Answer 3 Topic points:
Body parts: Arms, hands, feet and legs
Benefits of when children move their bodies: The benefits of physical activity for children are; it strengthens their muscles and bones, it improves their coordination, builds up their fitness and improves their motor
skills and brain development.
How do children feel when they don’t move their body?
When Children don’t engage in physical activity, it can negatively affect their physical, mental, and emotional health. They may face several issues such as feeling down or irritable, a reduce in their creativity, memory and concentration, poor bone and muscle health, increased stress, disturbed sleep and low confidence within them self.
Benchmark Criteria Demonstrate understanding of how to encourage children to participate in regular, planned physical activities and experiences and knowledge of the recommendations for physical activity for birth to 5-year-olds and 5 to 12-year-olds in the National Physical Activity and Sedentary Behaviour Guidelines for Australians and Australian 24-Hour Movement Guidelines for the Early Years (Birth to 5 years).
Question 1
Question 2:
What outdoor area are you designing this experience for?
Answer This can be done in an open area outside where the weather is appropriate and it accommodates for a big group of children to engage in their physical activities.

Question 2
Question 3:
How long will your experience take? (duration)
Answer It could take approximately up to 20-30 minutes.
Benchmark Criteria Demonstrate understanding of the expectation on the group profile and dynamic to plan a reasonable length of the time for the activity that is age appropriate.
Question 3
Question 4:
How will you ensure safety? Please include how you will manage each of these points:
Equipment (if used)
Access to water
Sun safety
Hygiene and teaching this during the activity
Adequate supervision following the principles of supervision.
Age appropriateness of activity
Answer Equipment (if used): Hula hoop.
Access to water: I would provide a trolley full of water bottles for inside/outside during the children’s exercise activity to ensure they always have access to water.
Sun safety: Ensure all children are wearing a long sleeve/shirt that covers their skin and ensure they wear hats. Apply sunscreen to all the children and try find a shady area to engage in the activities.
Hygiene and teaching this during the activity: Encourage all children to wash their hands thoroughly before coming back indoors to help prevent the spread of infections
or germs coming with them from outside.
Adequate supervision following the principles of supervision: I can ensure adequate supervision by scanning or regularly looking around the play area to observe all children are safe and in good health and shape to perform activities. Always ensure there are enough educators in the outdoor play area to prevent any bad incidents/ injuries from occurring.
Age appropriateness of activity: Choosing activities that are appropriate for the children’s age by including activities that promote and develop motor skills, such as running, jumping, and climbing.

Question 5:
How will you engage children and support them to remember? Example
You may choose to use a song or rhyme
A physical pattern of movement with matching words to help them remember
A fun game with rules that promote movement
A range of questions and answers with prizes, etc.
Use your imagination to make it highly involving for children and engage their curiosity.
Answer I will use games to encourage the children to move their body and get them to remember the lessons. The first game I will provide for the children is a game of ‘‘Simon says’. I can give the children commands like ‘Simon says touch your toes’ or ‘Simon says jump up and down.’ Another game the children can play is ‘Red Light, Green Light’ where the children move when the light is green and stop when its red. Both these games will help children remember to move because they make physical activity a regular and enjoyable part of their routine, so by providing these games into
their daily activities, children are more likely to remember to move their bodies and be active. These games will help children develop their motor skills like balance, coordination, and spatial awareness.
Benchmark Criteria Demonstrate how to encourage children to participate in regular movement and physical experiences and participate with the children, including an understanding of the importance of discussing with children how their bodies work and the benefits of physical activity on their health and wellbeing.
Question 5
Question 6:
How you will manage group dynamics of the children involved? (i.e. consider children who may be unwilling to participate, others who are wanting to be in the spotlight and managing conflicts if they arise)
Answer I can provide activities that are inclusive and accessible for all children. I can do so by adapting the games to suit different skill levels or abilities or offer alternative activities
for children who may not want to participate in the main activity. I can try to involve M2_AT04 Project _CHC30121 _Certificate 3 in Early Childhood Education and Care Page

If conflicts do arise, I can try to address them calmy and respectfully and encourage children to communicate their feelings and try to find a solution that works for everyone.
Benchmark Criteria Demonstrate the use of positive developmentally appropriate language when informing children of supervision requirements.
Question 6
Question 7:
Will you use to help explain your key points? E.g.
Poster
Music
Play items, toys, equipment
Compile your list below and describe how you will use them.
Answer Body parts: I can create a poster that has drawings or images of each body part and its
name underneath and then I can play music such as a song ‘Head, shoulders, knees and toes’ and have the children dance to it and point to each body part as its mentioned in the song. The benefit of children moving their bodies: I can create a poster that shows the different ways that physical activity can benefit their bodies and play music and have the children dance or do exercises as I explain the benefits. For example, I can tell them that physical activity can help strengthen their muscles and bones, improve their balance and coordination, and boost their mood and energy levels.
How children feel when they don’t move their bodies: I can use toys or props to act out different scenarios and explain how they might feel when they are inactive. For example, I could use a stuffed animal to show how a child may feel when they are sitting still for a long time, such as feeling bored, restless, or sleepy. Another thing I could do is play music that reflects different moods and emotions and ask the children
to move their bodies in response to the music. Benchmark Criteria Demonstrate a knowledge of the recommendations for children’s healthy eating as detailed in the Australian Dietary Guidelines and the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating.
Question 7
Question 8:
How will you share what the children have experienced and learned with their families? M2_AT04 Project _CHC30121 _Certificate 3 in Early Childhood Education and Care Page
5
Full Name: Student ID: Provide a strategy for communicating with families. List three (3) questions you would ask the children at the end of the activity.
Answer I can share what the children have experienced by creating a weekly or monthly newsletter that highlights the activities and lessons that the children have been working on, along with photos and videos that showcase their progress.
3 questions:
Did you have fun? Do you feel happy?
Can you show me your favourite exercise move?
Are you feeling strong and healthy?
Benchmark Criteria Demonstrate how to maintain knowledge of children’s health needs by seeking and sharing information with families.
