know
. American Counseling Association.
Description
Main Idea
Cyberbullying is rampant, and social media is a key
contributor. The intended benefit of bringing people together is
sometimes countered by the use of these sites as tools for
bullying and harassment (Bauman, 2011).
Evidence
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention reports that
bullying is especially widespread in middle schools. In 2010
28% of children in middle school claimed to have been bullied
in the preceding year, and 33% said they had been cyberbullied
(Bauman, 2011).
Analysis
It is important for counselors to be more approachable and
accessible so that adolescents feel safe talking to them about
Running head: MEAL PLAN ANALYSIS
bullying, which is typically seen as a harmless rite of passage
(Bauman, 2011). More and more people are learning about the
potentially fatal effects of cyberbullying. The media has
reported on a rising tide of suicides where cyberbullying has
been a contributing factor.
Linking
To aid their children, parents can benefit from the counsel of
professionals who can help them use rationale and compassion
(Bauman, 2011). Talking to parents about cyberbullying
provides a golden chance to advise them on how to best
safeguard and assist their child at home, such as by activating
online filters and keeping a close eye out for indications of
detachment or despair. Counseling parents on how to deal with
cyberbullying in light of the facts can also take place in the
context of such talks.

Running head: MEAL PLAN ANALYSIS
Main Idea
The phenomenon of cyberbullying has to be addressed in the
larger context of teenagers' use of the internet and their ideas
about what is acceptable behavior therein (Parks, 2013).
Evidence
Because of its open nature, social media may be abused in a
variety of ways (Parks, 2013). Cyberbullying is one example
of a negative usage of social media that has emerged recently.
A lasting sense of guilt is the most common effect felt by
cyberbullies, whereas victims of cyberbullying report emotions
of sadness, rejection, and even anxiety as the most significant
effect of being bullied online.
Analysis
Teens who engage in cyberbullying are more likely to become
arrogant adults who break the law, have trouble getting along
with others, and commit more serious acts of cybersecurity if
the problem is not addressed (Parks, 2013).
Linking
Young people's online conduct is influenced by a number of

elements, including their level of knowledge about the
mechanisms of social interaction online and their awareness of
the potential outcomes of their actions. According to Parks
(2013), teenagers should have excellent communication
principles and the ability to use social media responsibly in
order to reduce the prevalence of cyberbullying.

Description
Main Idea
As role models and agents of change in their students' social
lives, teachers play a significant role in fostering positive peer
connections and discouraging harmful ones.
Evidence
Teachers can keep an eye out for instances of bullying, step in
to help either the victim or the bully, and/or have a group
discussion on the need of maintaining a safe and supportive
classroom environment. They begin by naming authoritarian-

punitive methods like threats, sanctions, and expulsion as
examples of common practices among educators. Teachers
may also employ one-on-one support for bully victims and
bystanders to foster more empathy and reduce bullying. Third,
with the help of parents and other experts, teachers may
identify activities on a school and/or classroom base and
encourage collaboration among students through a supportive-
cooperative approach involving the entire class.
Analysis
Implications for how teachers could best assist their pupils and
how they might boost their self-esteem and sense of safety
stemming from successful interventions are substantial.
Linking
Teachers can positively adjust their abilities and techniques
when faced with direct and efficient experiences, best practices
shared, and processes implemented to respond to bullying
situations in a healthy context.
