September Bonds. HS 421 assignment 2.3 Your text discusses ways in which children think differently than adults. Some of these include concepts of distance, time, and money. Identify other concepts that children think differently than adults. Discuss specific examples you have observed in children, including the concepts of distance, time, and money. I know that when I was a child I definitely thought differently than my parents or other adults that were around me. I thought school was just a waste of time. I didn’t feel like it was going to do anything for me. I felt like having to remember dates from history wasn’t going to help me to be successful in life. I didn’t value things like cars or a house. I didn’t take care of things like my clothes or shoes. The way I looked at it was I could just steal me another one and continue to do so. I had no concept of accepting responsibility either. My son is one child that doesn’t have a concept of time or money or distance. My son will ask me for something and I will ask him to give me just a minute and he literally will ask me 2 seconds later. When we are going to the park he gets very upset after only a few minutes in the car because he feels like we should be at the park right then and not a second longer. And when it comes to food, he will ask for a banana and I will ask him if he is going to eat it all and he says yea. So I give it to him and he takes one bite and then doesn’t want it anymore. It’s funny thinking back to the way I thought as a kid and then going through it with my children and getting to feel like my parents felt with me. It makes me think about all the times I would feel like my parents didn’t understand me just to find out in adulthood that they understood me more than I understood myself. It definitely has helped me understand better ways to communicate with my children and try to better show my children that I do understand. To help show them that I do know and I have been there and all I’m trying to do is help guide them and not control them or make them feel like they are all alone.
