1. What are the four layers of the atmosphere discuss the stratosphere briefly. The atmosphere can be sectioned off into several levels determined by the average temperature of each layer. The troposphere, the stratosphere, the mesosphere, and the thermosphere are the four layers that make up the atmosphere. The stratosphere is a layer of the atmosphere that is made up of stratified temperature levels, with the heated layers of air being located high in the sky and the cool layers of air being located in the low sky, which is close to the surface of the planet Earth. 2. Define acid deposition Acid deposition refers to the process by which acid or pollutants that generate acid rain down from the atmosphere onto the surface of the earth. 3. Explain acid deposition causes and effects. The combustion of fossil fuels results in the release of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides into the atmosphere. These compounds combine with the water and oxygen already present in the atmosphere to produce low pH acids. Its effects include the accumulation of sulfur and nitrogen in the soil, which can promote the growth of weeds; the leaching of calcium from the needles of red spruce; the death of trees as a result of freezing temperatures in the winter; and elevated levels of aluminum in surface water. 4. Discuss the objective, and the success, of the 1987 Montreal Protocol. To what factors do scientists attribute its success? To preserve the ozone layer in the stratosphere, the nations of the world signed a deal called the Montreal Protocol in which they pledged to cut their production of CFCs in half by the year 1998. It did this by lowering atmospheric concentrations of pollutants that are responsible for the destruction of stratospheric ozone, and it is often regarded as the greatest example of successful action taken to combat a worldwide environmental issue. The experts believe that the success of the pact may be attributed to the quickly developing scientific research, the engagement of industry to assist in the problem-solving process by politicians, and the implementation of the Montreal Protocol after 1978 following an adaptive management strategy. 5. What are the most dangerous indoor pollutants in developing and developed nations? Cigarette smoke and radon are the two contaminants that pose the greatest threat to human health inside of developed nations' buildings; nevertheless, volatile organic compounds and microbes also play a significant influence. The burning of fuelwood is the primary source of soot and carbon monoxide, both of which are major problems in developing countries. The World Health Organization of the United Nations estimates that these variables are responsible for 5% of all deaths that occur in poor nations.
