Module 2 Goggle Earth Assignment Ashley Grovanz PHY-105 1. Shifting plate that are found in this area are the reasoning for the volcanic and seismic activity within the area. The Nazca, Caribbean, and the Cocos plates they all conjoin in the area. Under the North American Plate lies the Cocos plate in which this will cause the earthquakes to occur and that then forms the volcanoes within the convergent boundary. 2. I believe that a lot of the earthquake that have occurred on the gulf of California from the fault of San Andres. I believe that this fault would ne a transform plate boundary. 3. Earthquakes that occurs around Guatermala to Cuba are caused due to North American and the Caribbean plates meet. This fault it a slip or a strike and or it will transform the plate boundary. 4. When you start to move from Costa Rica to the Panama the earthquake activity has disappeared and then moves to where the occurrence will the take place in the ocean lithosphere within the plate boundaries off the shore. 5. Shield volcanoes are the common in the area they are accumulation of the basaltic lava fluid.
6. I believe that it looks like it could be a mix of the plate boundaries that then connect to the Panama and the Galapagos island. The seem to base the transform boundaries are based the depth of the earthquakes with the seafloor that is spreading and the step like patter that is in between the plates that could possibly divergent the boundaries that are connecting the Nazca and Cocos plates. 7. (A) Stratovolcanoes (B) I feel that the Stratovolcanoes are the ones that make sense. The plate boundaries on what ever side on the land border are the convergent and are pushing inwards towards the land from both of the sides in which then then causes magma that is being pushed to the surface causing it to form a central ARC location that is a land mass. (C) Hazards that can potentially cause some hazards such as a explosive eruptions that then can cause pyroclastic flow that is made up of a hot gas that tends to be mixed with large lava fragments and ash. (D) Based on what I see the two volcano that are the closest would be Irazu and Barva. When you really think about it I think that the Barva would have the biggest threat with it being a complex volcano. When you are comparing it to the Stratovolcano I believe with having a complex volcano it potentially shows a larger threat because of the rapid fast moving lahars. Barva withholds the properties that are in connection with other volcanos that are able to produce lahars along with the explosive eruption and the lava flow. But they both have the tendency to share the stratovolcano tratis.
