Overview:
This milestone activity is the first of two specific milestones that will build toward your complete final project for the course. For this milestone activity, you will submit this completed worksheet, in which you will address the elements below regarding your current and new global regions. See the Final Project Guidelines and Rubric document for detailed information about this scenario. These responses will contribute to the speaker notes transcript that you will create to accompany your final project presentation.
Prompt: For this assignment, complete the following steps:

Note
: Refer to your module resources and the Themes of Geography
resource, as well as additional resources you identify, for information to help you answer the questions below. Remember that you will need to have at least five sources in current APA style for your citations and references list in the final project submission. Note that each question of your worksheet has you track your citations. This is so you will not need to go back and figure out where you grabbed a resource from when you submit your final slides. You will be able to use these worksheets to copy and paste your citation list into your last slide. In some instances, you may have used the same resource more than once, which is why your list may be as small as five resources. Before starting this activity, review Milestone One Worksheet Student Example document within the Student Example Folder. Part I: Current Global Region
1.
Identify Your Current Region:
Southeast Region: Myrtle Beach South Carolina

Location of Current Global Region: Discuss where your current region is located, addressing the absolute and relative location of the region. Include citations for your resources using APA style guidelines as needed.
The Southeastern Region of the United States contains the areas from Weirton West Virginia to the north at 40.41866, -80.59112 to Key West Florida to the south at 24.60063, -81.77130. From the East, the region includes Nags Head North Carolina at 35.91060, -75.56362, and to the west it includes Shreveport Louisiana at 32.56702, -93.68681. The states that are included in this region are West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Arkansas. The Southeast region is bordered by the Atlantic ocean to the east, and the Gulf of Mexico to the south. The Southeastern Region contains major cities such as Charlotte, NC, Tampa Florida, and Atlanta Georgia. These are major cities that provide the region with economic advantages (Nijman, Jan, et al. (2015)). This helps in building up the region. There are some areas in the Region that still need major development, such as Mississippi and Alabama. Nijman, Jan, et al. (2015). 4.
Characteristics of Current Global Region: Explain what key sociocultural (human) and physical characteristics define this as a region. Include citations for your resources using APA style guidelines as needed.
The Southeast Region boasts a warm climate most of the year. During the summer months, the heat is on the extreme side, while there is very little winter extremes. There are moderate rainfall days throughout the year. This region is known for the agriculture that is produced here. In this area cotton is king, along with tobacco, rice and sugarcane (Britannica, T. Editors of Encyclopedia). The rich soil of the Southern region provides for a longer growing season. This helps the region sustain economically. The Southeast region consists of mountains, hills, wetlands and beaches. There are many different cultures that live in this region, English settlers, African, Asian, and Latin are just a few. The Southeast region was different from the rest of the United States in history. The use of
plantation slavery provided the region with free labor to grow products that would build the economy. As history has changed, the development of the region has improved. There is a wide variety of different cultural and ethnic products that are developed in the region. Britannica, T. Editors of Encyclopedia (2023, August 25). the South

5.
Interactions of Current Global Region: How have humans and the environment interacted to produce observable landscapes in your current region? Include citations for your resources using APA style guidelines as needed.
The growth of agriculture in the southeastern region has developed the landscape of the region. The development of farmlands throughout the region, and the warm climate made it possible for many to migrate to the south for jobs, and warmer climate. The winters are mild, and the summers are hot. This provides businesses with tourists to visit the beaches and other venues. With many coastal areas, climate change affects the area tremendously (

Characteristics of New Global Region: Explain what key sociocultural (human) and physical characteristics define this as a region. Include citations for your resources using APA style guidelines as needed.
The Southwest region is known to be dusty and dry, with very little rainfall. The region is categorized as arid and hot (https://earthathome.org/hoe/sw/climate/). Texas is the second largest state in the US, (Alaska is the largest). The Southwest region is known for cowboys, cattle and oil.
