Meteorology I Density Altitude Experiment Worksheet Name: Click here to enter text. Per the activity instructions, complete the worksheet below. By the end of Module 3 , submit your completed experiment worksheet to both Module 3 Density Altitude Training Activity and to your group discussion area. Hypothesis The Higher elevation should result in lower air pressure and lower density compared to at sea level. Phoenix, AZ density altitude overall should be expected to be higher than the airport’s elevation. Denver, CO density altitude overall should be expected to be higher than the airport’s elevation. Leadville, CO density altitude overall should be expected to be higher than the airport’s elevation. Data [Complete each table per the activity instructions (15 points/table)] Table 1 Airport Location: Phoenix, AZ Airport Elevation (feet above Mean Sea Level): 1,135 Sea Level Pressure* (in. (5 points) I was correct that density altitude should be higher than the airport’s elevation and that the higher the elevation resulted in lower air pressure. 2. (10 points) The greater the station elevation will influence the pressure altitude, and in combination with temp deviations will determine the density of the air. Higher station elevation equates to lower atmospheric pressure, contributing to a higher density altitude. 3. (10 points) Phoenix, AZ: Station pressure seems to have the most effect on density. Comparing the 1 st column and the 4 th column, which both have the same temp and dew point temp, the only difference is the station pressure. The density altitude changes from 1560.7 to 1904.1. When I ran the numbers in the density altitude calculator for the 2 nd column and changed the dew point temp from 30 to 60 to match the 5 th column the density changed from 5206.2 to 5360.7 which is not a big change compared to the station pressure. Denver, CO: Station pressure seems to have the most effect on density. Comparing the 1 st column and the 4 th column, which both have the same temp and dew point temp, the only difference is the station pressure. The density altitude changes from 6846.5 to 7167.6. temp from 30 to 60 to match the 5 th column the density changed from 8952.1 to 9446 which is not a big change compared to the station pressure. Leadville, CO: Station pressure seems to have the most effect on density. Comparing the 1 st column and the 4 th column, which both have the same temp and dew point temp, the only difference is the station pressure. The density altitude changes from 12333.8 to 12654.3. When I ran the numbers in the density altitude calculator for the 2 nd column and changed the dew point temp from 30 to 60 to match the 5 th column the density changed from 14076.9 to 14596.5 which is not a big change compared to the station pressure. 4. (10 points) Phoenix, AZ: Dew point temperature seems to have the least effect on density altitude. When comparing both temperature and dew point temp dew point had the least effect on density altitude. Denver, CO: Dew point temperature seems to have the least effect on density altitude. When comparing both temperature and dew point temp dew point had the least effect on density altitude Leadville, CO: Dew point temperature seems to have the least effect on density altitude. When comparing both temperature and dew point temp dew point had the least effect on density altitude 5. (10 points) High, High, High. A combination of elevated station pressure, higher temperatures, and lower atmospheric density, commonly occurring at airports located at high elevations and experiencing warm weather conditions create a high-density altitude situation.
