UNIV2200 Personal reflection – assignment Word Count: 284 Erin Laframboise 1185438 Climate change in relation to other SDGs
How are climate change, equity, and decolonization related? How do these concepts interact with the other SDGs? What could you do in your work/ study/ personal life to help advance them? Climate change is a cumulative effect. Things we do to our worlds such as burning fossil fuels and oil drilling are causing a poor reaction to our climate. As we learned in the last lecture from Graeme Reed, climate change is heavily related to decolonization and equity. One of the main reasons first nations wanted to decolonize was due to the way we treat our planet. Seeing how our countries cause climate change made them want to have their own land with their own systems and become more eco- friendly. This shows unfairness and poor equity to those who don’t agree with the government, forcing them to leave their colony and start their own community. These concepts interact with the other SDGs because SDGs are all related in one way or another. Climate action (SDG 13) interacts with life on land (SDG 15) by changing the way we run our society. This is related to SDG 16, peace and justice because climate change causes injustice within our community trying to alter the course of action towards climate change. personally, I think I could implement these SLGS in my day-to-day life. For example, Guelph has many clubs dedicated to climate change and keeping a sustainable world. Those would help me get involved and advance climate change action. Also, with coworkers or with friends it would be beneficial to share what Graeme Reed taught us and try to spread awareness of the climate crisis and how we need to step up and make a change.
