Part 1A: Workshop Details
Title
Family Engagement: Family Literacy Night Explanation Family engagement is based on the idea that children's families -and other people who provide care for the child - work together to prepare children for success. Family engagement can happen anywhere such as the home, an early childhood program, school, and community. It is the shared responsibility of those who care for children and who want to see
them succeed in academia and life.
Objective/Purpose
Family engagement will be the topic of this workshop. It will describe what it is, why it's important, and the benefits. A key part of the workshop is to provide you with a "toolkit" of ways to extend your child's education beyond the classroom - even in the smallest ways.
Target Audience
Educators, careers, caregivers and professionals in early childhood education (ECE) for preschoolers
Theory
Education success depends on family engagement. You do not have to be a teacher to contribute to your child's development and learning. First
and most important teacher of a child is their family. There are many ways to continue their education outside of the classroom, such as at home, outside, running errands, playing with friends, etc. We will provide you with a "toolkit" that you can use to extend your child's education outside the classroom, whether it is in the smallest of ways or even the most significant!

Standard #4 Assessment of Child Progress. The family literacy night has been going on for a few months now. There should be a significant difference in how fluent a child is reading and how well they understand what they have read if parents implement these practices.

Part 3: Environment and Materials
Environment
In order to facilitate this workshop, we will be holding it in the school library. It is a place where you will find a wide variety of reading material for people of all ages and from different backgrounds.

This workshop will require the following supplies: a book, pencils, paper, and reading logs for participants.
