You may help your pupils feel more at ease while speaking English with one another and with you by providing them with more opportunities for such conversations. Giving your kids several opportunities to interact with one another will help you achieve this. If you foster an upbeat and supportive classroom, you'll be able to motivate and engage your students in their academics. As a result, student performance in the classroom will improve. Applying teaching approaches that are created with how ELL students learn will permit me to deliver the
support they need to flourish in the classroom. English language proficiency standards serve as a starting point in identifying the language that will be needed in the learning environment ensuring that ELL students are able to effectively thrive in their learning journey (Fenner & Segota, 2016). Applying these standards will help me certify that I’m able to deliver my ELL students with the appropriate tools and teach the practices
required in order for them to stay on grade level/advance. I would describe to my ELL students’ families that these standards are intended to make sure student are afforded the correct support as
we advance in the lessons/activities while promoting learning their second language. Generally, I
would offer my ELL students families with resources on how I integrate content standards in relation to English language proficiency standards. Standards can be complicated because it might dictate spending a certain amount of time on a specific area before advancing which also can mean the same for learning a new language where the vocabulary might require more learning time. It is vital that as teachers we communicate when we are advancing and what the expectations are of the students. Ferlazzo (2021). “English-language learners possess a wealth of knowledge, and it is our obligation, as educators, to tap into their knowledge and continue to build upon what our students already know and can do.”
